Speed dating is a brilliant idea. The mind reels at the possibilities if you spice it up for the local, er, vampirish females here....

Your post, Samuian, reminded me of something: Men with "girlfriends" who speak very little English.

This has always baffled me. I mean a shag is a shag, sure, but after the fireworks are gone, what the hel_l do you do? I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone in their right mind would want to live with a woman who you cannot communicate with beyond inane sentence fragments. When I see these older men with their opposite numbers babbling like a grammatically challenged three-year-old I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

This seem the nadir of loneliness.

Thinking to be smart and knowing nothing at all seems to be the trade Mark of some here.

my first attempt at a multiple quote:

i completely agree with mark.

a drunken (or even sober) assignation is one thing, but how could you possibly hope to thrive in or even maintain a relationship where you don't even possess the most basic ability to communicate?

the cultural issues are difficult enough when both parties can understand what each other are saying, but with grunts, pidgin and gestures as the sole means of communication why bother?

and those who claim "perfect english" is the mark of a hooker, i would be much more wary of the girl who speaks lousy english with a scouse, aus, american etc accent and uses semi-appropriate colloquialisms.

I feel it is better to find a Thai woman who speaks only Thai, which will force the farang to learn it.

Or not. This is like the old, "Language exchange" angle. You teach me (insert local language) and I will teach you English (all for FREE!). Invariably, you end up dealing mostly in English.

I have known people who have acquired skills in the local language due to being with a local woman, but that's been the exception, rather than the rule.

parallaxtech:

The answer I expect to hear is that they learned English in university, at a bank or hotel, or lived in a western country.

The answer I expect to hear has be be filtered through my Radio Shack Lie Detector Implant (yes, they have those now).

There is a 24-year-old girl at the massage parlor near where I sometimes buy dog food who speaks English without any "tells," meaning she conjugates verbs and adds all the right articles in her speech, and so on. She said she picked it up working at a hotel in Pattaya (mentally raise one eyebrow) but not from going out with men (quick mental roll of the eyes). She is absolutely stunning looking, which adds to my belief that there is far more to her "picking up" English (and picking up whomever) than meets the eye.

Moral: Just because a woman tells you some information about herself doesn't make it the truth.

Let me add this to the mix: Possible occupations/work positions are limited in Samui compared to the capital city and most of those are in the hospitality/escort business. This colors one's normal "dating" attitude with at least one broad brush: You can get what you want, and you can get it instantly.

I think if you wanted to find someone who liked you for you, you'd have to spend a great deal of time laying the foundation (no pun intended). Ask her out to public places and have her bring her friends along (chaperon) too. Displays of affection in public are a no-no. Unless she is playing the long sting (I've seen this too), she and you will both have a better understanding of who the other person is and how to proceed.

Of course, everyone knows this, but for some reason, many men come to Samui and forget all this.

Parallaxtech, how long did you live in the 30 countries? Where is your opposite number from?

"English? Who needs that? I'm never going to England!"

Parallaxtech, how long did you live in the 30 countries?

I was wondering that myself- to me "living" in a country means renting/buying a home, finding a job, doing the visa paper chase, etc., rather than just visiting or spending a short period of time on company business.

parallaxtech: I am next:

Q: how old are you? Why do you accentuate, that your wife is that young? How long are you together? Why do you know the bar scene these days, if you have found a lovely young wife? Is it ok with her? You don't have to answer that, because it is all your private business, which can or cannot be discussed here. But questions like that could arise by your comments.

Re: First paragraph: I never go to bars or similar, but I think, that it would be logical, that a bg would answer, that she works e.g. at Soi Green Mango, because she wants men (=customer) to go there. Saying she works at a bank or similar would be counterproductive to her business, and also easily disproved.

Wonder when somebody claims he's met the "Virgin of the Rocks" at Chaweng's Tesco Lotus Cafeteria! :)

Theer are nevertheless some interesting sights f.E. at "Chaloern Optical" and "Beautiful Eyes" as well at "Findig"... "Coyote" but well, see my post at the beginning - MK's or "Moo Quatar" (Bophut) - "Pii Chet's" next door... with a bunch of "friends"... working mates.. eat. babble, laugh and say: "good bey'e" - parties can be a while different thing though but them one never knows... :D

Not to elaborate with "you like to see my baby"... I share my room with my brother... my mother, my sister, my xxxx!

What about those banner ads offering to set people up with Lady Boys (presumably for a fee)? They might even have been a sponsor.

These are google ads.TV have complained on several occasions. If you see the ad in question, please take a screen shot & email to support.

I sent you a screen shot in a PM. Very interesting that it was targeted to ladyboys ("Ladyboys: Looking for that 1 special guy?") Why is it that Google thinks ladyboys read this forum? Does TV even have those kind of stats? I filled out your user questionairre and must have missed that one.

Back in topic >>>> I was introduced to a very beautiful Thai woman once who spoke almost flawless English. She said she worked in a hotel and taught herself. Hmmm.

Regarding Thai women dating foreigners. An educated Thai friend of mine assures me that Thai's don't like their daughters marrying foreigners. This might not be the case in very poor area where a foreigner might well bring considerable wealth into his adopted family. His statement doesn't surprise me in the least as I consider Thai's to be discriminatory people.

However it follows that in Koh Samui, a wealthy island with wealthy locals, that Samui born and bred girls would not want to be seen dating foreigners. However if you met one in Bangkok, you would be far more likely to date one. No loosing face up there with the family out of the way.

However, a girl from Suratthani for example, working or living in Samui is far more likely to date a foreigner than her Southern counterpart from Samui.

I know different couples on Samui, husband farang, wife rich Samui Thai. Some married since many years.

But of course, Samui with only 50.000 registered inhabitants, most of them wealthy and sending their children to Bangkok to study, has not so many left to date. Almost all the Thais here you can see in public are from the mainland. There must be 200.000 alone from Isan o the island...

Sure Birdman, you're correct, I do too, but one has to generalise to reach some kind of conclusion. Right?

Mark: Good post and I will try to anwer your questions. If you live in a foreign country for a number of years (3+), the very least you can do is learn the language to a conversational level. What would you think of a Thai woman who lived in England for three years who only spoke Thai? The op is (was) trying to find a woman outside of the sex trade. The average "proper" woman in Koh Samui speaks ONLY Thai. Hence, if you want to search in that group the more you know the language the better your chances. If you put little effort into learning the language, most likely you will put little effort into finding a nice woman. The more work the better chance of reward.

Now, how did I come to these conclusions (to answer your requests)?: I was an Army brat and we were stationed in ten countries by the time I was 17. I went to university in the US and England. I then went to work for the Foreign Service, where I was posted to ten different countries (mostly Central and South America), but also lived in ten others for at least 3-6 months. I have lived on Koh Samui since 2004, but also have homes in the Cayman Islands and Florida. I have been a bachelor all my life and made a science out of my pursuit for women. When I first came to Samui, I frequented the bar scene, but quickly realized that this was not worth my time. I then read every book I could find on Thai girls and talked with at least thirty men who were married to different types of Thai women. At the same time I was taking courses in Thai (speaking, reading, and writing). Since I was retired, I spent all my waking hours approaching women everywhere outside of the bar scene not only in Samui, but all areas of Thailand. And the proof is in the Thai pudding: My lovely Thai wife (from Ubon) is 31, a chef, and the loveliest woman (inside and out) that I have ever met. We have been married for two years and money has never entered the conversation (own my own house and buy most of the food) . I mention our age difference (I am 55.) because many men here had advised me to only marry a woman within ten years of my own age, brcause anyone younger would only be after the money. Anyway, she learned some English (25%) and my Thai has improved to 50%. So many men have asked me where I found her that I continue to advise them how to find the same thing. This is why I presented my ten ideas to the op, which he thanked me for (read previous post).

It's ok to chastise or attack me or my opinions, but try to offer something tangible to the op. Any idiot can criticize, but only a reasoning man can offer a viable solution.

Well, considering this and the core of your statement that your

wife is from Udon and NOT from Samui the offered "solution" is OT!

Or in other words the chances are very, very slim on Samui!

Ah' well.... but then... why to go trough all these troubles?

BM: I will try to answer your questions. The op is trying to find a non-bg, so he wants to verify what she is. If she admits she is from the GM, bye-bye. If she lies It will be easy to verify where she works. If you were a gigolo would you admit it to a prospective mate? Ever see Pretty Woman? Many are looking for Richard Gere, not just a quick 1k and have come to realize that blurting out they are a bg kills their chances. My wife works 50+ hours a week and I don't work. I speak Thai and still spend hours each day talking to Thai women as well as helping friends to find nice women. I said in previous op that I went to the bar scene years ago, but try now to avoid it at all costs. I sometimes escort visitors through the GM just to show them what a zoo it is. So, no, I'd rather visit a local prison than the GM.

Do you have any ideas on how to find a "decent" wife/mate on Samui?

Communication Glitch: The op and I were trying to find a good Thai woman on Samui. She doesn't have to be born and raised here. My wife lived here for several years before I met her. Out of about 1,000 women I have met here, 3 were born here. So, nobody is trying to find a girl who was born here (or on the moon) for that matter. Any ideas you can offer the op on finding a proper mate here or do you now wish to criticize my wife's cooking?

The reason I compiled this list is that I am constantly asked how I found such a lovely young wife (24 yrs less) who never asks for money.
My lovely Thai wife (from Ubon) is 31

Did I miss something?

What does such a lovely Thai woman with such talents see in a retired foreigner almost twice her age who doesn't help her financially?

Post a pic of the both of you, if you will please.

I think that whatever the circumstances were with you and this woman, they were exceptional and no one should put much stock in a repeat performance. Nothing personal; you sound like a swell guy, but taking your advice reminds me of those people who once won the lottery and are now printing tracts and giving out advice on how you too can win big. Your situation was a fluke and would be in England or the US.

My wife works 50+ hours a week and I don't work.

I can think of about a half dozen things to post here and none of them would come off sounding right....

OK, here is something that I want to throw out: I didn't coin the phrase "open-ended prostitution," but it begs the question of the veracity of, "Once a bargirl, always a bargirl."

It can go like this: "I met my wife in a bar, sure, but she wasn't really like the other girls. We hit it off and starting living together. Sure I help her and the family with some money, but they have so little and I have enough for the both of us. Anyway, to make a long story short, after a couple of years it unraveled. I'm back here in Chicago and she's back in Pattaya. One of my friends saw her in Lucifer's on Walking Street, so that's how that story ends."

What this actually means is that even though you are happy, for a time, and the relationship lasts three years, four years or whatever, once it's over, the girl reverts to "bargirl/looking for sugar daddy mode."

Can a girl who has worked as an escort EVER be considered a "good girl" worth investing the greater part of your deepest emotions in?

Mark: No, before my wife, I lived with a 23-yr-old for six months (again, no money), before I left her for my present wife, so it's not a fluke. Are you saying that a woman can only love a man who is within ten years of her own age? I know over ten couples here on Samui with an age difference of 20+ years and they are doing fine. My best friend is 33 yrs older than his wife and they have been together for three years (she gets only a salary for working in his restaurant). The next time you walk around Tesco just look at the Thai/farang couples (not the ones with rentals). My mate in the Caymans was 18 when I met her and we were together for three years. Any other couples out there with a 20+ age difference??? A smart Thai once told me,"If you want to know if a woman likes you, don't give her any money. If she leaves then you know what she liked. Now, if you want to know if a woman loves you, she will offer you her money." My wife got her 12k bonus last Christmas and when I asked her what she was going to buy, said, "a present for you."

To clarify, my wife makes 12k/mos, so that is basically her money to spend on herself and family (no rent or food costs). She cooks, cleans, and takes care of the house in lieu of paying me rent. I have 1 rai of gardens so on her day off she sometimes toils in the heat tending to it. If she does I pay her the same wage as any other gardener (800b for 8 hrs, which she sometimes refuses). Every Christmas I give out cash or presents to anyone who has provided a good service to me over the past year. I typically give her 1B of gold (12-15K), so it's not like I keep her in rags and begging for scraps. It's just that I've met my share of devils over the years , so it is imperative that I know my mate's motives. If she were after money, she would have been long gone by now. Before her I believed most women were looking only for money, but I have happily proved myself wrong. My house and land were purchased before we married, so she has no claim on that, either, for those who might think she is after the property.

So, no, I didn't win the lottery. I did my due diligence and still help others to find the same. If they were easy to get, we would all have one. That's why you see so many with losers and other parasites - they are everywhere and easy to grab.

Anymore criticism or does someone have a tip for those who are looking for the right partner?

Yes, nowhere.

Just go on with your day by day life without looking for that. Do what you are pleased to do in a positive way. Be open, tolerant and sincere and good things will come to you automatically. Stay and life in positive surroundings. Everybody will like you and sooner or later a good wife will appear.

Re.first paragraph: Most single men are regulars at bars anyway and I suppose bgs assume that and therefore tell them the location of her bar to meet over there, pay her drinks and everything...

Funny, isn't it? that so many bgs assume single men here are potential customer. And even more bizarre, that so many farang men assume, every woman here is available for them.

Mark: Sorry, forgot to answer your question about an escort ever becoming someone you can invest your emotions in and live happily ever after. Short answer: no! Another long-winded story condensed -- I lived with a Russian girl for three months before I learned that she was a former prostitute and was beginning to ply her trades once more. After I through her out of the house, I buried myself in research on the mind of a prostitute. Many have done their PhDs on this subject, beleive it or not. I am not a psychiatrist, but the bottom line is that a switch is clicked in their mind that a man is only a money source pure and simple, and just because you marry her won't change her depiction of you. Do yourself a favor and go down to a bookstore and read Private Dancer or any of the other books on the subject. You will meet many here who will defend their thought processes in choosing a bg as a wive, but if you have something worthwhile, there is no need to defend your reasons for choosing it.

I have lived in thirty countries and have lived on Koh Samui for five years. My wife is a lovely, educated, and talented chef, who is one of the most wonderful women I have ever met anywhere. So, let me give you my two baht's worth of advice on finding a "decent" woman:

1. Don't look in bars, massage parlours, or discos. Many will tell you they found a lovely partner in a bar, but they would probably also find a suitable mate on death row.

2. Look in shopping malls, beaches, banks, and other offices.

3. Always carry a "Beginner's Thai" book and ask any potential prospect for assistance with learning Thai.

4. If a woman speaks good English, ask her where she learned it (possible hooker).

5. If she asks you financial questions within the first week or suggests you buy her something, walk away.

6. You will need a minimum of three months here to search.

7. If she is living with her family, expect to jump many hurdles. It's much easier to date a woman who has family in another province.

8. Don't fall for the line, "Must marry me before sex." The only virgin here is an ugly ten-year-old.

9. Make sure she has a job making at least 8,000THB/month so the only support she will need from you is food and housing. Don't get involved with any financial support for her or her family or buffalo.

10. Make sure she is at least 18 -- check id if not sure.

Good luck!

Back to the list - some quick ideas:

Point 8. in some cases that can be a real issue. There are indeed women here - in fact not too few -, who are virgins, because not married yet. I am surprised you do not know that.

Point 9. is contradictory to your general monetary opinion so far, because a "decent" girl/woman must not have work at the moment for various reasons.

Point 10. is ridiculous, because there a fake ids or people borrow from a friend who looks similar...

If you are legally married she would in fact have a claim, the divorce laws are very similar in Thailand to the West.

Raining today so have plenty of time on the internet...

Point 8. One: I am a retired gynecologist who worked in FS as a health officer, so I would be happy to check these "virgins" for a hymen. Someone once told me that a Thai virgin is someone who hasn't slept with a farang, just 5,000 Thais. If a woman used this line on me, I would say, "Let me or any gynecologist examine you and if true, I will marry you immediately. "All generalities are false including this one." Thoreau So, I guess, it is possible, just highly unlikely.

Point 9. She should have a proper and legal job; otherwise, you will be footing all the bills. What is contradictory?

Point 10. Is not ridiculous, but Thai Law. Sure she can show you a fake id, as nothing is 100%. If you have your doubts, walk away. I added this because a friend of mine was just scammed by a bg who showed him an id indicating she was 18, but was actually 14. He ended up paying big money. Some farangs still think you can sleep with girls under 18, so do at your own peril.

Again, don't mind criticism, just please add an original idea. Have one?

Umm I'm a bit confused, have you got a wife or a maid there, Parallax? If she misses out on the cooking or cleaning for a month how much rent do you indeed charge your wife? I may have to threaten to implement this approach in my household!!

In some cultures it is common for women to like their partners 20 plus more years than them, I noticed that often seemed to be the case in Russia. I sometimes feel sorry for the Thai girls who end up with a much older farang, they may be financially comfortable now but often they can never have children of their own.

And funnily enough, several Thai girls who have married older men often confide in my wife (after a few drinks) that they're thinking of having affairs with younger men- better start popping that viagra fellas!

In Thailand, the US, and most of the western world, a wife is entitled to 50% of all assets obtained during, not before, the marriage (non-marital property). Ask any lawyer or go to http://www.divorcesupport.about.com As a further measure, it is in a Thai company name that she knows nothing about. Plus, we had a Thai marriage (monks, no paperwork). If I ever do a proper marriage there will be a prenup. So, even if I married her, she would have no claim to the property. Tip #11 Never marry unless you plan on having children and then only do it with a prenup.

Does anybody have an original idea???

Yes, posting 108!!!

Point 8. So you have checked the female population here as a gynaecologist. And your argument that "Someone once told me that a Thai virgin is someone who hasn't slept with a farang, just 5,000 Thais." is really BS.

Point 9. So what? You are recommending the op how to get a "decent" wife. But now you say she must work. This are 2 different issues. A "decent" can have work or not. That says nothing about her character. Footing bills is a complete different issue.

Point 10. Ridiculous, because it looks like you are telling someone that, because it is Thai Law. You did not come yesterday and you sure know the attitude of bgs re Thai law.

BTW:

Point 2. That are the primary hounding grounds of freelancer

Point 3. Ridiculous again to have a prefabricated them while looking for date.

Point 6. ???

Point 7. similar to your ignorance seen at point 8.

Why are you hidding your wealth from her, why will there be a prenup, if you are sure, that she is not interested in your possessions?

Why did you say, that she is your wife if she is not?

And tip 11. Come on, now...

Thanks for all the interest in me and my wife even though it doesn't pertain to the original op.

No, several of my friends charge their wives/girlfriends rent. I own the house, but feel she should do something for this free ride. Do you believe that women should not cook, clean, and do laundry??? If so it sounds like you got a bad deal. I believe in everybody working legitimately for a living in one form or another. As my father always said, "Nobody owes you a living." And please don't criticize my dead father, as he can't post a response. So work and contribute or hit the road! Besides, she is more than happy to do her part. I offered to hire a maid, as I like a house as clean as a surgical suite, but she refused.

As far as age, I actually sometimes feel she is too old for me, and sometimes remind her of this. All my previous mates were much younger (see previous posts). I even sometimes call her "Ma." At least three girls between the ages of 18-25 have come over to the house just to talk with me and she has chased them off. Plus, several young women in her restaurant have approached me on their day off while the wife was at work. So, no, I'm not concerned, just confident I could replace her in a short amount of time with an even younger woman. Whether she would measure up is another story. Right now I am very happy with this wife/lover/best friend.

You apparently have a lot of frustration and rage, so I would suggest a psychiatrist, not a gynecologist.

1. State your issues clearly, don't ramble on with gibberish.

2. Remember we are trying to help the op, not criticize me, so come up with original ideas if you have one.

3. Methinks you married a bg, so good luck, and keep the emergency number on speed dial.

Good luck with your rantings. I'm sure a lovely woman would enjoy your company!

again, all that is your private life, you do not have to tell that here. But if you do, don't expect others to agree. Because the last paragraph of your post disqualifies you as someone, who can give proper and sincere advice for relationships.

'nough said already.

Many to most marriages in Thailand with or without farangs are performed by monks and not official. You can search this on Thai Visa. All my friends here are married unofficially, as what is to gain by officially marrying her? So, yes she is my Thai wife. Love and money don't mix. Why should my wife have to know about my assets??? This is none of her business. I know that she owns some land in Ubon, but that is none of my business, either. Keep money and love separated. You can't buy love as they say.
