Thai economy: Thais staying home and not going out to eat

Was at the Big C Pattaya Klang 2 weeks ago. Must have been about 5 pm and they were putting the prices down. Must have been about 20 farang hovering around this one bin as they put out the discount food. So it isn't just Thais feeling that pinch

The number of Grab Food delivery bikes and other food delivery services I see queued up at the more popular Thai places tells me that the Thais are simply getting too lazy to go out and buy the food themselves, they're just calling out for somebody else to get it now.

Prices are rising. Just went to our local Vietnamese restaurant. The menu had stick on paper on every price with new prices ( upwards in price written in). The dish we normally buy in a take away box for 2 people was 200 baht 2 months ago, last month it jumped to 240 baht, toady we hit 300 baht . He then tells me a bigger size at 400 baht , no thankyou. Not being stingy farang can probably absorb the increases but if you were a Thai on 250 baht a day, phew!

maybe getting healthy to? lot a heffas about nowadays eating market oiled up, salty, fatty rubbish. Probably a good thing  My family eats 99% of meals at home. Sick of paying for diarrhoea then for the medicine...

We were the only guests at a 4 star resort in CM. Well, the rich are busy buying up foreign assets and the average have no clue. 
The longer this cheap money floats around , the bigger the world wide bust up.

could be due to Food Panda and people ordering from said restaurants but to eat at home

Eating at home and not  going out to eat is shades better than  staying at  home  and  not eating at all.

Could  be not  far oof and probably  already  for a growing  number.

Sorry but I don't agree.  Jamie left his brother-in-law in charge of his business interests when he should have been running it himself.  We had a meal at Jamie's Italian about six years ago and was probably the poorest excuse from a chain I've ever had the misfortune to consume and we never went back after that and we weren't the only ones.

Is this really true that the portions are smaller when ordered through Grab or Foodpanda? Anyone else experienced this? I always thought the price was slightly higher when ordering through those apps plus you pay for delivery too.

Some of the prices are getting stupid in these restaurants imported beers 300 Baht a pint

I was looking to take a snack home it was like 170 Baht for just a snack, <deleted> that stop at 7/11 on the way home 30 Baht

Asked motorcycle taxi guys how things are in the soi I live in and they all said pretty much the same thing. The street traders and food shops/restaurants are all complaining that business is way down.

 

Had a large roller blind installed 2 weeks ago and asked the guy installing it how business was. He said it was his first order of the month. He claimed that usually November and December are the busiest months for his business, but so far it had been terrible. His business was really suffering. 

 

All rather anecdotal but seem to support others interpretation of the state of things.

I never know what to believe after reading any of these polls because it's never explained enough how these polls are conducted. Why the number is so small, thus how does it represent the population as a whole, how much were people spending before; Thai's usually live with family and friends, so how much has changed; Thai's often unplug all electrical outlets, so why does this article make it sound like something new; is less eating out a result of the economy or a result of a person's spending habits; like others said, are people just ordering in more now cause they'd rather not go out; and more. My main concern is the rather small representation of the Thai people and when it comes to money, in Thailand, the gap is pay gap between high society and low society is so large, it's hard to make broad generalizations.
