Kids turning to fake sick notes on internet to skip school

Kapook reported that a 16 year old girl had bought a fake medical certificate on the internet in order to try and skip classes at school.

The mother opened a letter with the sick note that said her daughter had been admitted to hospital from the 3rd of December to the sixth.

It was just the 4th and her daughter was quite well.

A fuss ensued as the doctor's surname was the same as a local politician who was a relative but it soon emerged that the daughter had bought the fake over the internet for 200 baht.

The doctor at the center of the case was in Korea and it certainly wasn't his signature or the hospital stamp.

He warned parents and teachers in a Facebook post to watch out.

Posters said it was easy for students these days to download forms from the internet. If they wanted something a little better they could pay criminal elements online to stamp it for them for which they charged a fee.

The doctor has filed a police report in an attempt to catch the forger.

The plan was good, but the letter should have been sent to the school, me thinks.

I understand why they do such things, it's a torture to go through this kind of education.

Ferris Bueller in his day had to go to much greater lenghts to skip school. Alas, they didn't have the internet back then. Yet his methods were sooo much more creative.

Yes they usually are in movies.

if i posted a link to the story about how low Thai students scored compared with other countries and then posted this story on that stories comments would it create a giant feed back loop that would crash the internet?

Also be very careful, my friend. You do not want to fight that defamation lawsuit.

Ah..."the old absent tee not"

I remember how difficult it was back in my day to try and sign my mums signature when I would forge a sick note, then one day the school noticed the differences in the signatures and sent my mum a few letters to contact the school as they couldn't reach her by landline, i.e. no mobiles.

She never received those letters as one of my tasks was to bring in the mail from the mailbox when I finished school.

Then I was called to the admin office one day, straight out of class, and was asked where my parents were, and I said is dad overseas (1974) at the moment, and mum sleeps during the day because she works nights as a nurse, they said the phone was always engaged, and I said, yeh mum sleeps during the day and takes the phone off the hook so she is not disturbed during her sleep.

Ok, so that is why the school has had difficulty contacting them, does your mum read English I was asked, yes was my reply, because we have sent her some letters and she hasn't contacted us, so you make sure you give her this sealed letter, oh, yeh sure, is everything ok, yes yes, just make sure you give it to your mum when you go home, ok.

I knew what it was about because I got rid of the other letters, but this was going to be tricky, anyway, next day I through another sickie, unbeknown to me, mum was supposed to pick up dad from the airport at 1pm, while me and my brothers were at school, but guess what, on that day, me being 16 and unlicensed, had taken mums car keys from under her pillow while she was asleep and took her car for a drive, a usual occurrence, but this time I got lost and when I rocked up at home at 4pm in the afternoon after I found my way home, dad, mum my brothers were all sitting at the front of the house waiting for me, the admin office went around at around 12pm and knocked on the door and asked mum where I was, when she went to get the car and noticed the keys missing from under her pillow, she knew.

I still recall the feeling of me dying inside when I saw them all sitting there.

Fortunately for me I didn't get a walloping, although I was grounded for like a month, naturally I wouldn't take the car anymore and mum purchased a crook lock just in case, and I really feared my dad, he had a really loud voice, just ask my kids...lol, but was all bark, as I am.

As for school, well, it sucked, left at end of year 10 and believe it or not ended up doing two degrees as a mature entry student years later, yep, some of us are thicker than others when young, that said, I came good having a good career with 6 figure salary and investments made at the right time (real estate) which helped me to retire here at 55, what a ride, all starting with forged school notes....lol ????

Ok, I know it took you a while to come up with this story. Just one question. Is this your way of saying, it´s ok to fake your sick notes?

I suppose you could say yes, I mean if your bored and not interested in doing something, then why bother being there, an example would be like, a lot of people working, bored, but still working, I would like to think that I found a way out, call me a black sheep if you like, but today, I have taken back my own power, make of that what you may.

As for my kids, I am always telling them to look outside the square, although I am sure it will take a while to kick in, DNA ????

Even I have been absent without real reason fake notes and such. Did went on to study and ended up quite ok. I would not say that this is a major problem. It will be if the student is a problem student and messes it up. But skipping school sometimes is not a predictor to failure.

No, it´s a predictor of early entitlement and disrespect. Sure, sometimes it can turn out good or bad in the end. Still nothing to use as an excuse for it to go on.

Actually i see it as no such thing. I see it as learning about responsibility. I knew what i could skip and what not. I never failed always top marks of the class.

Though of course not everyone is like me so can't really say it will always work out that way. But 4MyEgo seems to have turned out good. The other side of the medal is of course people who lack discipline and abuse the chance to skip and mess up their whole education.

Hard, as usual the good will suffer under the bad as its hard to differentiate between both.

I don't see this as a major problem, if they want to do something they should change how kids are educated in this country. Though the higher someone gets the better education gets as the idiots are gone. Mostly people who want to learn educate themselves higher so you only got motivated people usually better teachers too.

The problems are usually where people start their education, motivation is bad there. When I did my higher education (was over 18 of course) we could decide if we wanted to come or not. Though the school (private school) gave a guarantee that if you did not skip lessons you could stay at this school at their cost if you failed. That did not apply to people like me who skipped now and again. Not that it mattered as I was one of few that made it in one go.

Nah, not so hard to differentiate. Just that the same rules should go for all that studies something. One of those is attending lessons, otherwise they should be put on the fail list. That was one of the things needed to not fail in my school. Also brought something called disciplin into my life, that tells me the value of not skipping out of things I do not like while others need to go through it.

Seems you skipped some basic English lessons, given last post.

My mother was active in PTA so they knew her handwriting.

When I got to high school, I signed all forms, notes, etc. There was never a problem with comparing signatures as they were all mine. I graduated with honors, so apparently I didn't miss too much that might be considered vital.

We never had a fail list for something minor as skipping classes. It was all about the grades that you had, not outward appearance. Its not about skipping at all, its about making sure you got the knowledge and passed the tests.

I think different people need different things, i taught myself all the discipline i need. I can keep to a healthy diet, exercise enough. Got enough discipline to do my work too without a boss. So I can only say it did not make me a lesser man to skip a few lessons once in a while. But I had to brains to keep up.

Some people can get away with it.. others cannot. I mean you got away with it so did I, but would be different for students that were struggling already. That is the only problem its not just good students that skip school (good students will not fail as they can keep up) bad students skipping school is more of a problem.

Perfectly understandable. This 16 year old girl must be smarter than average. She has found out that the Thai curriculum, as is, will not provide any vital information anyway.

At the age of 16, they think they're the smartest on the planet. Probably met a boyfriend and thought; this is the way to go. Pregnant next year and bf disappears, next move would be to dump the baby with her parents and head for Pattaya...

I can see that you like to blame the female sex for everything bad. What about all the boys that just makes girls pregnant without taking their resposibility? You know, these guys that do not know how to firmly attach a condom.

And just for your information, it´s just a small percent of the girls that take off to Pattaya in the line of work you are meaning. Just guess that shows what experience of Thailand you have.

Seen this stuff before, a female student at my old Bkk uni had given a copy of the exact same hospital report to many professors and when the tiny unclear hand writing was finally interpreted it mentioned a medical problem specific to men, plus further examination revealed another person had written that the patient must be admitted for 2 days, 5, days, 10 days etc etc.

The uni called the police and then an admin. person escorted the girl to the directors office where the police were waiting.

End result, dismissed from the uni and all her credits cancelled and she was told 'don't bother to register at another uni and then ask for your credits to be transferred because they are all cancelled. Cop gave her a 2,000Baht fine, collected within an hour.

But some irony; the girl didn't have 2,000 cash on her and didn't have 2,000 in any bank account, so a junior admin. girl was told to go to her classroom and politely disrupt the class, and ask for donations, but she got confused and explained every tiny detail to all of the students in the classroom.

Several of the girls buddies chipped in and the 2,000Baht was collected but as each one of her buddies gave money they were all cat called by all the other students in that class.  In reality the girl concerned and her buddies were seriously disliked, they had caused disruption several times and had threatened several other students with violence. None of them ever attended further classes.

Another case, a 'student' sent a photo of a medical report to her professor saying she could not get out of bed for a week. By this stage the uni (same as above) was checking medical reports strictly, and one point led to another disclosing that the student actually registered was working in Europe for a prestigious Thai company with xxxxx connections, and the girl attending class was a proxy student, a very serious offense at most universities.

End result, the proxy was fined and an order issued by OHEC (the office of the higher education commission in the Ed. ministry) that she was barred from ever again registering to study at any uni in Thailand plus her already achieved bachelor and masters degrees were cancelled.  Plus the employer of the actual student was contacted, the employee was sacked on the spot, and barred from ever registering to study at any uni in Thailand.

Even more embarrassing her fiancee was a senior manager of the company with a good career, out of loss of face he resigned on the spot.
