Crossing border by bus 2 simple questions

Featured Replies

Hi

I just bought a bus ticket in Phnom Penh to go to Bangkok tomorrow evening. I think the bus will go the main run thru Poipet, if not a border point nearby. I have a couple of basic questions I don't know the answer to. I have a UK passport. I just plan to stay in Thailand about 10 days so didn't get a visa.

1. The bus ticket is 1 way. Will I get asked to show a return ticket at the border? If yes can I buy one at the border from an agent?

2. How long is the stamp on arrival coming in on land?

Many Thanks

1. No need for a ticket out of the country.

2. You will get a 30 day visa exempt entry.

sweet ... many thanks

For information and from what I have experienced, on arrival at Poipet follow instructions from your driver/agent. You may get an "identification" sticker to put on your shirt. You alight the bus (with luggage) and proceed to Cambodian Immigration and Customs for clearance, then you have a lengthy walk past the casinos to Thai Immigration for processing (there may be long queues). Having then cleared Thai Customs, you re-board your bus which will be located in a car park nearby.

Sounds like you have done it before. I imagine it would not be pleasant? PP to bkk how many hours?

Always surprises me why people even use a bus. OP must of had his reasons over flight.

It is the worst crossing possible between Thailand and Cambodia. It is rotten with corruption and cheating, sneering officials. I did it twice! Once for the experience and once because friends wanted to visit Buri Ram and Surin before going to Cambodia.

I have flown ever since and totally refuse to go through a land border again no matter how many times friends have tried to coax me.

I just say, I will catch them up in Siem Reap and I fly with Air Asia.

I have not traveled by bus from PP to BKK, only from Siem Reap to PP on a bus that originated in PP. I have also used passenger vans from Siem Reap and Battambang. I keep my pick-up parked in one of the official car parks on the Thai side of the border which I use to drive to my home near Khon Kaen. Parking at Aranyaprahtet is 100 baht per day. The journey time from PP to BKK is generally 12 hours or more.
