The Commerce Ministry applied QR code technology to the ID cards of copyright agents to ensure police, entrepreneurs and citizens can identify real agents from imposters.

Deputy minister Weerasak Wangsuphakijkosol said that the Department of Intellectual Property (DIT) issued the announcement about copyright agent identification, which allows people to check the information on the agent by scanning the QR Code on the ID card via a smartphone application.

“People can check information about copyright owners, the authorisation period and the copyright infringement procedures,” he said.

Copyright agents who want to submit their information must have the qualification specified by the DIT, and have passed a criminal background check from the Royal Thai Police. They must also go through copyright law and basic ethics training to be eligible to receive the copyright agent card.

“We would like to ask the copyright owners and agents to submit the information to DIT so that we can upgrade copyright law enforcement and make it more efficient and transparent,” Weerasak said.

The deputy minister also warned copyright agents to proceed under the law and not violate anyone's rights, because they may be disqualified as an agent.

“The copyright owners and agents can submit their information from December 26 onwards at the Copyright Office in the Commerce Ministry during normal working hours,” he added.

As long as the system is constantly maintained and regularly updated.

I'm just waiting for the time someone scans an ID with their smartphone, to be informed it's a tin of baked beans on special offer at 20 Baht.

So they have this app they want people to use, but, they are yet to get agent to sign up and they are asking copyright  owners to sign up. The agents need to do a course on the law and ethics! Yeh right.

So what have they actually got to promote?

Good luck with that when the agents are bullying people from the start to give them money. It will end up being a loss of face resulting in more intimidation when you ask for a QR scan.
