Republican senator: no rules, many options for Trump impeachment trial

The dems don't have any traction and are losing momentum bigly in the only states that matter. If a miner can go down a hole he can learn to code. hahaha They are so out of touch. In states where people actually do real work you don't just come on in and threaten a man's livelihood.

Unless you are actually on the ground in these places you are not going to understand the overwhelming support for Trump. It is absolutely unwavering. Taking Trump out of office would be considered by some a coup at this point.

Sadly many trump supporters don't care if trump is undermining the rule of law and harming the USA. Their loyalty is to the person of trump and not the USA. Sad the USA now has a cult of personality instead of a republican party.

How about the rule that the senators look at facts and listen to witnesses? They should order any witness with direct contact to POTUS to tell them the truth. And then the senators should ac

How can you say that about the best president America has had in the last 100 years ? It is standard policy to try and "get the dirty" on a political rival, and Trump has done no more than any of his

Use your imagination. I am telling you it will be considered a coup by millions of people. Especially if it is done in secret.

Not really. It is well  understood that the Senate majority is  Republican. If it were to go to a secret  ballot and the result  was   against Trump  would there  be any  valid cause  for objection? Is it  to be  forgotten that Trump is  the  representative  of  the Republican devotees  or  is  he a demi god? He  can be shafted in the  political interests of  the  majority as  can any  other.

This said as the dems have done everything in their power to cause a recession. It's sad you can't see how loony both sides are.

The people themselves have the final right of approval. Anyway it isn't going to happen in the first place. Was just pointing out some of the implications under the wild scenario that the dems could control the senate and make the vote in secret.

Happy New year

Republican Senator John Kennedy, a frequent defender of President Donald Trump, said on Sunday there were no real rules for how the U.S. Senate should run its impeachment trial

Categorically incorrect.

The rules were put into place by the Senate for Clinton's impeachment that required a simple 51% majority of Senator votes. Unless the current Senate votes to drop and/or change those rules, they remain in place. While Democrat Senators do not have 51% party-line votes, some Republican Senators might be swayed to vote with Democrats for some degree of amended and/or new rules.

The vast, vast majority of Trump supporters are not loyal to "him". They are loyal to the idea that the status quo of the last 50 years is completely unacceptable, and are willing to take Trump in the bargain in order to change things.   This has been 50 years in the making. Expect 50 years of Trump and clones of Trump for the situation to reverse.

The issue isn't that Trump is undermining the rule of law today. It is that the majority feels the establishment has been undermining the rule of law for decades. Change that perspective first,. Only then try and get rid of Trump.  But if those in Washington won't clean up their own house, they shouldn't be surprised by the result.  You can't really blame the Republicans for recognizing this and going with the shifting winds, despite their dislike for the man.

Keep in mind the Dems had their chance and they blew it. If Obama really had been "the Change We Can Believe In", then Trump may never have happened.  You think that campaign slogan came about purely by coincidence? Sadly, Obama was no significant change at all. He was pro establishment. Trump is the result.
