Visa on Arrival

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My passport (Malta) is on the list of countries which get VoA in Thailand however it only allows one to stay max 15 days.  We are planning to stay around 25 days so what are my options?

or is there another option which will allow me to stay the full 25 days without having to go to immigration to extend?  Would I need to go to the nearest consulate to obtain this visa?

I'm married to a Thai national and we will be visiting family.

Thanks!

Your only option is to get a single entry tourist visa or a single entry non-o visa. Or to leave after 15 days and re-enter the country to get a new visa on arrival.

Just a quick question about this subject with a maltese passport. My thinking is; Malta is a full member of EU. So Thailand theyare making a distinction between different EU-countries nd treat them differently. I mean I as a swede could get a VISA exempt for 30 days, but Malta NOT???

Love to know what is valid here.

thanks

I know the visa on arrival cannot be extended in the same way as a visa exempt entry. Does this include the 60-day extension to visit your Thai spouse?

Just being a member of EU does not mean all of them will get a visa exempt entry. Thailand determines what type of entry is allowed.

Look at this list that shows both voa and visa exempt entries by country.

Edit: Just looked at the voa list and a list of EU countries and noticed Cyprus and Romania also on the list for visas on arrival.

I have never heard of a 60 day extension being allowed for a 15 day visa on arrival entry. Everything I have seen states no extension is allowed for one. It might be allowed but I am reluctant to suggest entering and trying to get one.

Get SETV

If SETV not possible then enter on a 15 day VOA but you need to show a ticket leaving thailand within 15 days. Go for a day trip to Cambodia/Laos/Vietnam whereever is easy as per visa requirements.  Come back and take a new VOA for 15 days.

There is a 7 day permit to leave the country issued at some immigration offices but that would only mean 22 days and your stay is 25 days. You might be staying with your wife's family in a far off province and the 7 day permit to leave may be a real hassle to get.

SETV might be cheaper because buying a ticket to Cambodia/Laos/Vietnam would also cost you money. plus the visa and hotel.
