BATEMANS BAY, Australia/SYDNEY (Reuters) - Authorities urged Australians on Friday to evacuate parts of the eastern states of Victoria and New South Wales to escape bushfires they fear are set to burn out of control this weekend.

VILLEJUIF, France (Reuters) - French police shot dead a man near Paris on Friday after he went on a rampage with a knife in a park, killing one person and wounding two more, prosecutors said.

PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - A building under construction in Cambodia collapsed on Friday with more than 30 people on site, killing at least two workers and leaving others trapped under rubble, officials said.

SET could break 1,600 in Q1, reach 1,700 this year: analysts

The benchmark index broke the 1,600 barrier in the morning session, reaching a high of 1,604.43 before retreating in afternoon trading.

 

The Stock Exchange of Thailand Index barely changed on Friday (January 3), closing at 1,594.97, down 0.85 point or 0.05 per cent after surging on January 2, the first trading day of 2020.

BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese health authorities are trying to identify what is causing an outbreak of pneumonia in the central city of Wuhan, officials said on Friday, as the tally of cases rose to 44 and Singapore said it would screen arrivals on flights from there.

Online application to oversee use of dangerous farm chemicals

(Reuters) - U.S. linguists on Friday chose "they" as their Word of the Decade, recognising the growing use of third-person plural pronouns as a singular form to refer to people who identify their gender as neither entirely male nor entirely female.
