The iPhone obsession..

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Was thinking about the iPhone obsession, seems like some sort of a brainwashing thing, a habit, or craving.

When I sit at my local watering hole, watching folk running, jogging etc, most have an iPhone in their hand, going out for dinner I look around and near all have their head buried in an iPhone. Last night we were out at dinner, Mrs.Trans, her son and lady were all fooling around with their iPhones, and let's not forget folk riding scooters, iPhone in hand, so just one hand for using one the brake leaver.

Of course the iPhone invention is great, opens up a new world, but are folk being overtaken by it....?  ????

Technology/internet. I made a rule long time ago, no phones at the table when go out to dinner. Took the family out and under 30's were all bloody glued to the screens it was terrible.

Like damn zombies everywhere, walking in to you, blocking aisles, doorways, face down in the screen.

Even the young kids got there own tablets are glued, had to have them limited to screen time, they went nuts ! Initially, like withdrawal syptoms.

These things are like a drug !to the youngsters.

You would of course break that rule if I joined you? Shouldnt let the youngsters be exposed to my table manners...much better to let them watch something less traumatic on Netflix like Texas Chainsaw Massacre you know.

Yeah I find it sad and have began to ignore it, when I say anything Mrs says "up to them". ????

One of my pubs I go to when it's not busy I sit down and the ones who serve are all glued to mobiles, they laugh when I ring the restaurant phone number and ask for a beer.

In the week I went to Tops Supermarket, nice shop, wondering round I saw a team of ladies working on fresh produce to be put on display, one lady had a knife in one hand and an iPhone in the other, I thought, I wonder if that iPhone has been into the toilet with its owner...????

Walking round Dohome, zillions of staff standing around with heads buried in their iPhone, don't their managers instruct the staff to actually work...????

Should be no phones on the shop floor at all. Leave them in locker/staff room whatever.

Well if you are a respectable chap, your phone rings, you should leave the table, but my point is that folk are now dominated by the iPhone screen...

Yes agreed it is quite annoying really.  While back home it is also like that but to a much lesser extent then i experience here in Thailand. I know my wife is addicted to her phone and Facebook and if i comment she says everyone is doing this i am the abnormal one ????

But back to my question. Iphone is one brand of mobile phones. Does not cover the whole mobile phone market ???? So i assume you just mean people in general on their phones not specifically phones ? ????

I don't have a smartphone; I don't know how to use it and I don't want to learn.
I have a thing called Nokia cell phone which cost me 800 baht a few years ago;
I put 20 baht for a month;
It makes me laugh to see all these people of any age chatting with other people they don't have and will never meet in real life ...
I have a friend who lives in Japan; it is even much worse in this country compared to Thailand.

He takes photos in the Tokyo metro that are to die for ...:cheesy:

A photo I shot at the top of Phu Tok in Loei province not " the " Phu Tok in Beung Kan ..

As there was fog so nothing to see and not really the possibility of taking selfies.
the photo says it all ...

I think he must be an Apple hater, but Android phones are just fine.

Ill give him credit where credit is due for hating Apple.

But in reality all phones are the same and do the same for their owners.

Like many I use my phone a lot too. I love it for reading and doing stuff when i have t wait for something. Just like the people in that picture they are just killing time while waiting. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Probably as i use the phone a lot. If I have to wait for something I will grab my phone read something on a forum or website and entertain myself. I won't do that during diner unless someone important messages me.

I see no reason why one cannot use a phone instead of looking straight not doing anything i can play with my phone. Great entertainment as long as your not with someone or have a job to do.

It's a different generation. My daughter watches no TV, but spends all her time on her phone or computer talking and texting, watching Youtube, playing games, shopping, etc.. I try to teach her not to use it when others are around, but it's pretty much impossible when everyone else in the room is on their phones. All her schoolwork and homework is online these days, so she does need to spend a fair amount of time online.

I am writing this on my phone while eating my dinner, I only buy food that's easy to eat without cutting, so I don't have to put my phone down????

Have not had a  mobile phone for 5-6 years now. Let the wife have one, job done. She'd only get suspicious if I had one

I  just refuse to use one  anymore, managed without them before, used to use them but got sick of constant interruptions to life.........I  might turn it  on once a month for 5 minutes, the worst is the way everyone is expected to  have one and an app for everything........... <deleted>  off  just give me some service.

They all sit in toilets at mall with phones, that’s where workers go to relax

Jackie's question was ALL phones or just iPHONES. Ban them all in restaurants, schools, public places, bedrooms!!!!

I guess you are classing all phones, Apple, Android or Windows, Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, etc etc as iPhones.

If you look up you see the smoke so best to keep your head buried in the phone methinks. This is the future there is no going back. Glad to say I've never had one and never will.

I remember back in the old days when people were still talking to each other.

I'd have thought that this was Transam's message?

So many kids are so addicted ( adults as well) that they don't know what to do with their "free time."

I've got plenty of students who are so addicted to their phones that it's hard to believe.

I confiscated one for the rest of the lesson, and the boy reported me to the headteacher.

 It has gotten insane.

It seems logical to me phones should not be used in class. Before phones I took a book with me when I needed to travel or wait (in busses and trains) Now i got a phone. I don't see the difference.

Have you ever seen pics of everyone reading in a train ? It happens now people use phones nothing new.

I understand that some people hate phones, my parents do too. But its a new time and things change. I am sure you did things your parents did not approve of. Its the changing of times and the only people who moan are old people. Just like it was when TV came and when Radio came ect.

But sure people should not use phones when they are eating with someone.

Yes I was going to ask you much the same thing. In my experience few people have got iphones, mostly have Samsung or Oppo. However I do see what you mean. What you have to realise however that today's smartphone is a portable computer with access to any info in seconds. This coupled with the fact that many people especially the young, live their lives on line through social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Line etc. To them its perfectly normal way to behave. I personally use my phone quite a lot when out when I need to but not all the time. Its a generation thing.
