House Speaker orders probe into alleged proxy voting using other MPs’ ID cards

 

 

House Speaker Chuan Leekpai has ordered an investigation into an allegation, made by former Democrat MP Nipit Intharasombat, that a Government Bhumjaithai MP used the ID/Voting card of a fellow MP to vote during the recent fiscal budget debate.

 

Mr. Sorasak Pienvej, secretary-general of the House of Representatives, said today (Tuesday) that he will call a meeting of the legal team and get them to establish whether the allegation can be substantiated, adding that he will try to wrap up the case as quickly as possible.

 

Mr. Nipit, Democrat deputy leader and former MP for Phatthalung province, alleged that a Bhumjaithai MP used fellow MP Chalong Thoedveerapong’s card to vote during the debate.

Well, he admit it already ????

It should not be difficult to work out if the MP was present or not. If he was not there and his card was used for voting that should cause a couple of vacancies in the house. Of course in the parallel universe that is Thailand it may well end up under convenient carpet.

Now why would a member of one of the government's coalition parties snitch on a member of another of the coalition parties?

In other words he has no ethics or morals in respect to the principles, procedures and mechanisms of a working democracy.

 

I wonder where he (and perhaps others) got this idea from?

 

Is there a precedent for this in the past workings of the Thai parliament?

 

Such a bad example for young folks.

PTP set the precedent. Send the opposition home telling them the vote will be tomorrow. Then get your MP's to vote, and vote for their absent mates using their ID's.

 

IIRC one got caught on film doing it. Defense was he was suffering from alzheimers!

Well if it happened before; why stop now? It's not as if there was a coup with a general who promised he's only doing it to stop all the cheating and corruption and make everything better for the Thai people, right?

 

 

RKIDLAD is right. There was a military coup where the Generals put everything right that the civilians had wrecked.

The Generals then graciously held a general election where, to their great surprise, the parliamentarians made the coup leader the Prime Minister. Now it seems, he is being betrayed again by those nasty civilian politicians, bribery, corruption. the

Naughty civilians. And in this case, to be bubbled by someone who is no longer an MP. I wonder what his issue might be.

Perhaps the current Chief of the General Staff is looking on in disbelief at these naughty civilian children and wondering whether it's all going horribly wrong again.
