The overall air quality in the country ranged from good to below standard, according to reports from 17 air-quality monitoring stations of the Pollution Control Department (PCD).

In the northern region, they measured between 20-134 micrograms per cubic metre. The Thai government standard is under 50mcg per cubic metre while the World Health Organisation recommends 25mcg per cubic metre.

The amount of dust in the air is likely to increase in many areas compared to Saturday. Five areas have been warned of extremely high dust:

Na Chak subdistrict in Muang district, Phrae province (104); Phrabat subdistrict in Muang district, Lampang province (110); Mae Moh subdistrict in Mae Moh district, Lampang province (85); Sob Pad subdistrict in Mae Moh district, Lampang Province (82); Ban Dong subdistrict in Mae Moh district, Lampang province (134).

The PCD has urged people in such areas to monitor the dust situation and wear a mask at all times when doing outdoor activities. It has also asked the public to refrain from burning in open spaces.

The PCD asked people  to stop burning! For f××ks sake slap a huge fine on anyone caught burning and start rewarding whistle blowers in cash. That will focus some minds.

Not going to happen. The Chinese holiday is over now back to burning the sugar cane. Asking the public not to burn in open spaces? ???? What a load of <deleted>, the Chinese multinationals that own this place are actually pushing to increase sugar production. ????

Well here at the moment there are 164 ... I really think that even these numbers published by you have been corrected in your favor!

If little "Somchai" could organise a weekly "school strike" that might get the ball rolling!!

"He" would need a lot of rich and influential backers with an agenda first?

Meanwhile Phrayut is talking about banning cars in Bangkok and closing schools.  He is either an idiot or just doesn't want to end his payoff from the sugar company!

Both  !

"It has also asked the public to refrain from burning in open spaces."

"Asked"?!!!

That seems to be a tried and true method to get the populace to be responsible (If you have noticed, the death toll on the roads are hovering around zero, after years of asking). Up here in the Mahongson Province, the mountainsides are burning all day and night. Just about everyone has  a smoldering fire in the morning. And to add to all of this, some idiot decided to build a charcoal manufacturing operation next to the residential area. Fortunately, most of the expats can afford to leave the area until the rains start, leaving the local folk who are "asked" not burn to suffer the health consequences of their ignorance and greed.

It would help if they swept the roads and cleaned up the Northern cities!

We are 12 miles west of Udon, the wind direction changed a couple of days ago (coming from the East now) the AQI is good, at the house it is ~12, downtown it is ~90, the dust is never cleaned up and just recirculated and added to by the traffic!
