Popular zoo told to stop putting piglets in with tiger

A popular tiger zoo has been told they face having their licence revoked if they repeat activity that local officials have condemned.

Sri Racha Tiger Zoo was putting piglets in with a female tiger to attract tourists.

But the move backfired when a tourist posted a four second clip in which the tiger - a female named Saimai aged about 21 months - seemed to go for one of the piglets.

Signage at the cage said that Saimai had been raised on pig's milk and had been around pigs since she was young. The sign referred to her "gentleness".

But the local authority and animal welfare took a dim view.

After the clip was widely shared on social media they went straight to the zoo and put a stop to it.

Sanook reported that the pig concerned was not harmed.

Now pigs were in the pig enclosure and tigers were in theirs.

The zoo was warned they would have their licence revoked if there is any such repeat.

Thailand has many excellent laws, compliance is the issue...

Maybe Saimai is vegan.

Thailand has many laws.. getting people to abide by them is the tricky bit,

and then prosecution... well that's a long long long story!

Tiger, Pig, Doberman, and a Chinese tourists.  Oh, sorry, he's on the other size of the glass.  ????

given their national philosophy, you might think Thais would be good to animals but they are – if anything – even worse than the Chinese.

Zoos anywhere are rarely good for livestock but here they are a disgrace – see pic above of three or more disparate species in a cage smaller than a BKK hole-in-the-wall bar.

Yes, I admit I have put the wife in with crocodiles – not for a photo but to get eaten*.

But the animals are so drugged/effed they don't notice her. I've seen kitchens in China taking more care of live menu items than zoos in Thailand.

*I mean for them to eat the wife, not the other way round.

The pig was fine with it until he joined them!

If only the Thai's were accepting of foreigners on their patch as the animals in this photo.  ????

You do understand Tigers are nocturnal, and sleep all day.

No need to drug them.

If somebody wakes me up when I'm sleeping I'll certainly bite their head off. Leave 'em tigers alone.
