What do you think chihuahua was bred for?

Found this story.

In a 1520 letter, Hernan Cortés wrote that the Aztecs raised and sold the little dogs as food.[7] Colonial records refer to small, nearly hairless dogs at the beginning of the 19th century, one of which claims 16th-century Conquistadores found them plentiful in the region later known as Chihuahua.[8] Small dogs such as Chihuahuas were also used as living heating pads during illness or injury. Some believe this practice is where the idea of pain being transferred to animals from humans originated, which gave way to rituals such as burning the deceased with live dogs,

Really?

a chihuahua looks vicious to me...

We have a very large golden retriever - she wouldn't hurt a fly. Anyone comes in the garden she instantly wants to be friends and play.

We also have a teacup Yorkshire terrier. She goes mad if anyone comes to the gate. If they come in the garden without us escorting them she'll have them. She's bitten five people so far - ankle or foot. Totally fearless once set off and incredibly protective. Yet with the family, soft as a brush; never even snapped at anyone.

Never judge by size!

Today's pit bull is a descendant of the original English bull-baiting dog—a dog that was bred to bite and hold bulls, bears and other large animals around the face and head. When baiting large animals was outlawed in the 1800s, people turned instead to fighting their dogs against each other.

Glad to know you can use google , so tell me again how exactly do they breed them to be violent?

maybe you missed it but dog fighting is outlawed and has been for decades.

By selective breeding. Dogs that were good at fighting were selected and bred with other similar dogs, passing on and amplifying the trait to their progeny.

Maybe any dog can, but its mostly pit bulls that do.  Have never heard of a yellow labrador mauling a neighbor’s kid.

here is one for you

breed specific legislation is for ignorant individuals

Are you trying to be cute? The same way you breed dogs to emphasise any other quality. You breed them to be violent by mating individual dogs that have shown a propensity for violence. Other qualities are seen as "good" in this type of breed, such as obedience and strength/muscle mass. There are a lot of people who are drawn to really dangerous, violent, powerful dogs. The scarier the better. So this type of breed is getting worse every generation.

Where I live, Nong Han in Chiang Mai, there is a horrendous dog problem. An elderly neighbour next door has 5 dogs. Virtually every Thai house on the street has four or more dogs. Most of them do not have a fence and do not put the dog on a chain. The net result is that you have dogs coming at you when you walk the street, often in packs of 5 or more. Not to mention the dogs tearing open rubbish bags and urinating all over the bin, fence, everywhere.

I only go for walks carrying a big stick. But thanks to reading the above article I will now get gun that fires blanks on Lazada, as it appears the noise is more effective than any stick. Also ordered Spyderco knife just in case. The situation is that bad here.

I've just sent yo a PM about the gun. I need some information if you can help, please.

I sort of agree. I'm fine with banning all dogs. If that seems too extreme I'll accept a weight limit. As in a dog may not weigh more than one kilo.

Where are the usual, my 4 'pitties' would not hurt a fly, they protect and play with our 6 month old baby when we are out posts? ???? Another avoidable attack, avoidable because none of these bred for violence monsters should be alive in the first place

You obviously know nothing about dogs. Jumping on the frenzy band wagon about Pit Bulls totally ignoring the fact that other breeds attack more. Small dogs bit far more people than large dogs. The problem in Thailand is soi dogs, packs of farral dogs roaming every street. Thai peoples lack of accountability for failing to keep their animals under control. Unbelievable laws and police attitudes that place dogs above human rights. Any dog can turn on its owner regardless of breed and an example would be to roll about on the ground playing with 2 or more dogs and see what happens when there excitement level rises and the pack instinct kicks in. Let us ignore the facts that for every pit bull attack there are dozens of other breed attacks. RESPONSIBLE OWNERS OF ALL DOGS, CORRECT TRAINING AND BEING ON A LEAD IN PUBLIC AT ALL TIMES.

You have a point - but the average pit bull is a lot more powerful than the average soi dog, which is usually some medium-sized scrawny dog that I think I can probably hurt with a good kick. A pit bull - not so much. I don't know anything I could possibly do to an attacking pit bull that might help, unless I am armed. Which, you could argue, a pit bull owner is. The dog is the weapon.

This thread is yet another about Pit Bulls attacking, they usually end up killing of course, it's not about soi dogs who, thank goodness are not usually killers. The Pit Bulls are killers irrespective of how they are btought up or how responsible the owners are, and there is something suspect about the mentality of any one wanting to own one of course. Pit Bulls are banned in at least 12 countries for a reason- THEY ARE VIOLENT KILLERS. Let me guess you have a 'pittie', probably with a name like fang, tyson or rocky. What about all the other dogs then is the argument Thais use when their pest gets complained about. All dogs can attack and bite, but if you had a choice the last one doing it to you would be a vicious Pit Bull!

A 15 year old boy tried to get the dog off by getting a stick but in the end a neighbor came out and shot a gun in the air that scared off the dog. Both victims were rushed to hospital.

Why didn't he shoot the dog?  Bullets shot in the air can kill you.

What's the legal definition of "animal cruelty?"

While you're at it, look up the definition of self-defense.
