I married my Thai wife 5 years ago in Hong Kong. At that time she wanted to keep her surname. Now she wants to take my surname and this involves getting the Hong Kong certificate certified in Hong Kong. So to make things easier I have suggested that we get married in Thailand at the local Amphur and get her name changed at that time. My wife tells me that we will have to go to the British Embassy in Bangkok to register the marriage-WHY?  All we need is a marriage certificate from the Amphur with both of us with the same surname. This is for the retirement extension based on marriage. Can this be done without a trip to Bangkok?  Thanks in advance.
