I have to get a different ticket back to Western Canada from Chiang Mai. I did have one in two weeks which went through Shenzen. I am cancelling that and starting a new search.

What would be the best path, through Taiwan, Korea, Japan?

What path would get me exposed to the least amount of cooties.

How about looking into the western route? I often travel with Turkish air via Istanbul or Qatar via Doha    do these airlines fly from Canada? There must be others.

Fly into Bangkok like anyone else. Arriving from across the Pacific you might opt for Taipei, Seoul or Tokyo as intermediate stop in Asia - OR - as suggested, take the Eastern route via the Atlantic and the Middle East. 

Probably Japan. Wear a mask in airports, and wash your hands whenever you have contact with surfaces touched by other people. Such as biometric scanners. Picking your nose for boogers should be placed on hold.
