northengr
Try to look on the bright side. While I feel sorry for the old lady, we should applaud her and maybe put her on retainer for tying up such a big amount of the bureacracy. Helps us tourists and th criminals too, breathe easier since the guys are so busy elsewhere.

Popular Post robsamui
Actually, the overall situation in Thailand is now really very sad. The Thai administration only recently seem to have discovered "the media" and, in the same way as young children, have rushed to jump on the bandwagon without having the ability or insight to understand how it works or its effects or results. Unfortunately for them they simply don't realise that arranging mindless photo-calls at best only shows the world how out of balance their jobs and attitudes are, and at worst broadcasts their utter stupidity to the rest of the world. This kind of silly event is generally ignored by the bulk of the native Thai population, as it is too every-day to be noteworthy. But in their insane need to keep "face" at all costs, the administration just can't tolerate falangs criticising them - which is now happening all the time via social media and in forums such as this one. There are so many idiotic official statements being made by incompetent gov. representatives and many instances of irrational and inconsistent policy decisions being identified and highlighted by (comparatively) better-educated and informed foreigners that it must be a constant and insufferable nightmare to those in the higher echelons of 'Thaidom'. Is it any wonder that the current administration has come to loathe and detest having so many 'superior' farangs in their midst? Ordinary Caucasian people, but who know more about science, technology and engineering, education, politics and world history, than Thais do, and have a sounder grasp of simple general knowledge and a much higher level of general education? AND who are not afraid to be openly critical when they see stupidity at work? It's hardly surprising that immigration policies for long-stay Caucasians have now become Draconian, whereas day-trippers (many of whom are now carrying potentially deadly infections) are being welcomed with open arms. Dr. Zorg
I thought there is a mutual agreement in place that people in border areas can work in both countries - Laos/Thailand - legally? That was the position 15 years ago in Sadao/Pedang Bazaar.
Advocate
It certainly demonstrates that a lot of immigration officials are sitting around doing nothing. With Thai Immigration Bureau love of paper documentation you can bet they required the old lady to submit and sign at least 20 pages of documents before they deported her. The 6 Thai Immigration Bureau officials involved would have required at least 2 pages for each of them.
British Bulldog
How embarrassing to even reach the news, a slap on the wrist just quietly and warned to get some documents in place or next time ....... !!! and keep it out of the press ! That's a huge loss of face for both parties !
Chongalulu
That those posing for the photo opportunity think this imparts kudos begs the question 'What is the collective IQ of those in the photo?' (Don’t include the old lady’s which would raise the average).
AlexRich
Meanwhile the foreign boiler room scammers and property fraudsters are allowed to continue with their work. The old dear didn't know where to pay the "tea money" ... if she's making 7.50 GBP per day she's obviously being exploited. I'd be ashamed to be in a photo like that ... a bunch of sad cases. What is it you don,t understand? Small or big crimes Thai Immigration if you agree with the polices is doing their jobs. Are you more concerned it might be you next for doing something illegal? Yes she did. Of course you are so right. Straight down the line - you are absolutely, righteously correct. Nobody can dispute that! You've hit it in One! Congratulations. We all feel very humble and grateful now that you have pointed out the error of her ways. Well done old man! Exemplary example. Go to the top of the class. You have our gratitude and applause for your perfectly correct and sensible reply. But it is the way that this has been done is what really rankles in the minds of everyone else. There are many poor people surviving back in Laos who are not breaking the law. She did have the choice not to break the law. I don't know her story, so I can't judge too harshly … I'm only saying that there are often consequences for knowingly breaking the law. I have had a number of Thai friends who knowingly broke the law by working illegally in Singapore. They were poor by Singaporean standards (as many Lao are poor by Thai standards), but they also knew the risks they were taking and were prepared to face the consequences if caught. They did not indulge in self-pity nor would want the pity of others. I would have felt bad if they were caught, but I would not have blamed the authorities for enforcing laws that all knew were in place.

Popular Post Benmart
The inmates pose and display their ego and arrogance for the world to view. Never mind the quiet, behind the scenes approach for such a trivial arrest. Pathetic. 4
