PHUKET: Some 3,000 Chinese-speaking tour guides in Phuket are out of work and need financial assistance to pay their living expenses, Phuket Professional Guide Association Deputy Chief Natthakorn Ruengrote revealed yesterday (Feb 3).

Mr Natthakorn explained that there are about 7,000 tour guides registered to work in Phuket, reported Post Today.

Of those, an estimated 3,000 are qualified and registered to lead tours in Chinese language, he added.

They have to take a crash course in Hindi, the Indians are coming! :coffee1:

3k registered, how many illegals (serves them right).

There's always work in the never ending road building sector.

Just a few of the many that will feel the pinch in the hospitality industry. Crime will probably increase.

Very likely. Also there will be derelict buildings all over the place. Only tourism left will be "dark tourism". Maybe they'll include Phuket in a world tour with Chernobyl & co.

For years and years already people are claiming this when something happens. So far it has not materialised, and I don't think this is any different.

I don't believe for one moment that there are 3,000 'Chinese speaking' Thai guides in Phuket, this is typical Thai think of a number and quadrupal it !

I still have my old CD of a Hindi language course sent to me years ago when I needed a crash course.

I opened the package and it was a 15 minute CD, [sound/visual] sound of an out-board engine... put-put-put-put-put-put-put with a visual of a traditional head-shake!

Worked a treat, one hour I was fluent!

Maybe they can work in the rice fields?  Plenty of jobs if you look for them.

Great news. I hope Phuket crashes and burns.  It's an awful place.
