No Travel Warning for Thailand: TAT fights back

Should you travel to Thailand with the threat of coronavirus?

Israel’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Friday afternoon, saying that “contrary to a number of media reports, a travel warning has not been issued so far for Thailand in connection with the spread of the coronavirus.”

Earlier the Tourism Authority of Thailand was fighting back. Dov Kalmann, head of Pita Marketing in Tel Aviv represents TAT and also the African Tourism Board in Israel. He forwarded a statement to eTurboNews saying:

Regarding the recent inaccurate news reports in some Israeli media about a possible issuance of a travel warning on Thailand by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel as a result of the World Health Organization (WHO)’s views on the situation in the country, the Royal Thai Embassy wishes to clarify as follows:

  • Can we have a few wai's, the famous Thai smile and wave a few Thai and Chinese flags, degrade those ai farang for not wearing masks, then I'll be convinced you're on the right track!

  • Seems like TAT could have just let this one melt away.   By "fighting back" they are giving the story more exposure, and raising doubts in the traveling public?   Come for the air

If you follow the links to the Thailand tourist support information website it is all about China and is extremely old out of date information and not particular to Thailand as such

It addresses only people travelling to or from Wuhan China

Thailand now has 25 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, and its capital Bangkok is now considered the most at-risk city in the world outside of China for spread of the infection.

My family back in UK contacted me yesterday, asking me to cancel my booked trip home in april!  Over reaction I think.  Current advisory is to self isolate if feeling unwell.  My family is interpreting it as self isolate upon arrival.

Due mainly to the poor decision-making of the Thai government no doubt. Same as it ever was. Still, I strongly believe they should be allowed to stew in their own juice. They'll never get out of the 3rd world if they aren't allowed to stand on their own 2 feet.

They'll make a mess of it same as they make a mess of most things. Of course, I'm nowhere near BKK so that probably influences my thinking...

channel 4 news from the uk reported yesterday that thailand was the second most deadly country for the coronavirus.

the reporter managed to speak to the health minister, who appeared uneasy and unprepared to answer questions, all he could muster was 'we're doing what we can...' a little short on specifics, which you'd have thought he'd be all over, being the health minister...

Thailand only have 25 confirmed cases, because they seem to never get the test results.... over 500 pending.

Now they reported 615 possible infected.

Days since they reported their last numbers here: https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/eng/situation.php

With the recent outburst from the Health Minister and them not telling the recent numbers, I worry they will soon admit to serious outbreaks in Thailand.

Wuhan was closed down at the numbers Thailand are suspecting now.

Do not be surprised if bans at put on Thailand next week and schools etc. being locked down.

Thailands money and take it easy focused approach to this is about to back fire big time.

I'm back in the UK as of early February, and my old man picked me up at at the airport. I said to him prior that I technically could have the virus due to the incubation period, and in is typical Northern manner jokingly said 'don't worry, I'll just open the window in the car, that should do the trick'
I have actually pretty much self isolated myself for 2 weeks just in case, as I had to roam around Bangkok, the airport and plane before returning. It's safe to say thousands of people have it in Bangkok right now without knowing

I just read on The Thaiger that a little girl coming from Thailand is in the hospital in Israel because of coronavirus

But other than that, everything is fine;
Prime Minister of Thailand controls situation at 120%
