Coronavirus: “we have done our best”, says Thai health minister

Thailand now has 25 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, and its capital Bangkok is now considered the most at-risk city in the world outside of China for spread of the infection.

 

 

Our Bangkok Correspondent Jonathan Miller has spoken to doctors and officials tasked with tackling the virus, who admit they may only be able to delay its spread rather than contain it.

Really? Handed out a bunch of masks that are pitifully inadequate, slagged off those who knew that and refused them, all the while trying to allow more virus carriers to come visit and spread the plague. If this is his best, you would hate to see what happens when they do poorly.

The only silver lining with this horrible virus (I’m actually talking about the corona one not Anutin) is that it could help topple the CCP and Thai Junta.

If they don't start taking this situation seriously it may take a very long time to recover and restore confidence 

 

News coming from China is very grave indeed - they ignored and silenced the Doctor (who has since died of the virus) who gave them an very early heads up in December  and a chance to halt this in its tracks, by covering it up and lying to the public we now see the results

 

First thing Thailand needs to do is be honest with the public - the only way to stop this is with public cooperation - it is not about face masks - it is about shutting down affected areas and containing the outbreak if necessary - China has isolated huge parts of the country and shut down public transport and told people to stay indoors - Hongkong has closed its borders

After yesterdays performance, I don't think there can be many foreigners who will respect anything that comes out of the health ministers mouth. I note that when being interviewed he wasn't wearing a mask, not even one of the crappy ones he was trying to force people to wear yesterday.

Clearly the Minister is well qualified to deal with health related matters.

Anutin completed secondary education at Assumption College and higher education in engineering from Hofstra University in 1989.

Anuthin was formerly an engineer, and has worked in many private companies including the position of Managing Director of Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited.

What I fail to understand is that most of us, farang, immediately understood the extent of the disaster that would occur if Thailand did not immediately close its airports, ports and land borders.

But for some here on this forum and elsewhere in the Ministeres, as these were "farang" proposals, it was s*hit

Here we are, uncontrollable situation, as in China elsewhere ......

We have the same in France, Italy or Germany and many other countries all over this earth ...

Not sure where you get this from. Seems under control in Thailand s far as I can see.  

Numbers of infected are still rising in China, true, yet very small rise in infected elsewhere in the world.  Thailand had 25 cases of coronavirus 2 days ago, those were mostly Thais returning from Wuhan/Hubei.  No Thai has died, they have all recovered or are recovering

Controls are in place, health screening at airports, tour companies not allowed from China.

Yes there are still 40,000 plus Chinese vacationers or on long stay in Thailand, but no reports that they are infected AFAIK.

All the foreigners understood is that they have nothing to lose if Thailand locked down the border with China.  That makes it a no brainer for them.   Unlike the millions of Thais who support their families with Chinese money.   Meaning that it required no brain at all.   Not some deep level of understanding.

 

There's still a lot of questions whether the virus is worse than the panic around it.  It'll be months before we know.

Think Thai tourism is doing what is prudent.  Health screening, checking peoples origin of travel. Hubei province is where the people infected are.  Hubei population is 4% of the total population of China.

Why does he think his best is not good enough?

 

Thailand has had zero new cases since the 5th February, falling from 2nd in the world to 5th and having the best recovery rate of any country globally. It's not just good. It's outstanding.

 

He has done a magnificent job and really should be the advisor on a global scale on effective management and treatment of the Corona Virus.

"Same with Corona, we say they have pneumonia or lung disease, so we don't count as Corona. It's simple, but effective and genius".
