Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Jurin Laksanawisit

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Jurin Laksanawisit said that the ministry has established a war room to monitor the coronavirus situation and was preparing to resolve the problems.

“The ministry wants face masks and handwash gels to be controlled products under the Price of Goods and Service Act because these products may not be sufficient for the needs of the people in the country. Fortunately, the Cabinet has already approved this proposal,” he said.

“This approval has enabled the Department of Internal Trade [DIT] under the ministry to enforce the law for increasing production to make sure that these products will be distributed thoroughly. Also, it allowed the department to inspect product stocks, including export and import as well.”

He said that an entrepreneur who wants to export more than 500 items of these controlled products must obtain permission from the DIT director-general.

“Currently, the DIT is closely monitoring retailers who violate the law. We have already arrested and filed charges against 11 retailers. If people find retailers overpricing their products, they can contact via hotline on 1569 anytime,” he said.

“For the production and distribution of products, the DIT director-general has urged 10 large manufacturers nationwide to increase production capacity to ensure sufficient stocks for Thai people throughout the country.”

He said that the DIT chief had ordered manufacturers to distribute face masks to various areas nationwide to increase distribution channels for people as soon as possible.

“The department will send 300,000 items to the Government House, 200,000 items to the Ministry of Commerce, and 500,000 items to 820 branches of Blue Flag Stores. The product will be distributed from February 11 onwards, which will be sold for another 15 days,” he said.

“On Saturday, the ministry brought face masks for sale at a reasonable price of Bt2.50 each, to cover production and transportation costs. Also, the ministry examined both the quantity and quality of products as well.”

The minister praised Thailand Post for delivering face masks to 820 Blue Flag Stores nationwide without any charges.

Since it is the Minister of Commerce with his big hilarious smile who has just stepped up.
I worry about him;
in fact not for him but for the trade balance of Thailand which will plunge radically in the red and even in the deep black as long as its boss does not take the radical measures which are essential ...

European countries are asking themselves the following question
(and yes I am farang, I read the information on different sources ..);
should they refuse entry to their countries to all people coming from Thailand since this country has still not closed its own to the Chinese?

So, will they set up a war room for seasonal flu? This hysteria is getting beyond a joke

This virus will continue to live on the internet even if it is gone long time already. It is a completely new mutation.

Don't the government understand?

unfortunately greed doesn't allow them to do that, too much $$$$$$$$$$$$ to lose.... that's why they still have more than 100 K of Chinese here, to slow down the loss

the majority of people in Thailand don't get the real news, they prefer the FREE brain washing news from China

“Money is a very big issue in Thai news and the reason why Xinhua is so popular is because it is free,” said Teeranai Charuvastra, news chief at Khaosod English

Pro tip: set up ONE war-room. Appoint/assign/task one person to oversee the efforts; Interior? But Paochinda may be too old to provide day-to-day leadership?

Having a war-room within each ministry would be counter-productive.

Or just set up a committee to investigate various war-room options?

Yes, a war Room is certainly the way to go. But you can’t rush important things like this. First they'll need to form a War Room committee to determine exactly what committees the War Room will need. Then they’ll need to form a sub-committee to appoint War Room committee chairpersons and to appoint War Room committee members. Once the War Room committee chairpersons meet and determine an agenda for all War Room committee meetings…the War Room will be ready swoop into action. Victory is assured.
