Thai Chinese Chamber determined to forge closer ties between two nations

It would be funny if it wasn't so serious. China wants the whole of the middle and south eastern sea. This then makes it easier to dispatch aid to Chinese military is disputed places. With closer ties forming between Thailand and China, China will probably do the same in Thailand. That is when, IMO, the problems will begin due to the relationship the US (and others) and Thailand had in previous years.

Maybe Thailand will become known as South China...

China announced publicly its plans to remove western influence in this area of the world several years ago.  They are patiently working their plan.  Sometimes I wonder if the trips to China by Thai officials and the attitude at most Thai Immigration offices are connected.

Slowly tightening the screws to make living in SE Asia by westerners uncomfortable...

Puchaiyank, No it will be called CHAILAND. China is being used as the IMF/World bank. Just wait till they get the bill for all those loans. This is going on Globally with China The regime is a parasite on every continent! Go ask them how this will turn out for Thailand.

Lots of talk as per usual.  If you want Chinese customer, go to China.   Don't wait for them to come to you.  The Thai eatery Greyhound has restaurants in China, Hong Kong and Saigon.  That says more than a bunch of government mouth pieces looking for a place at the trough.

Secret Recipe is from Malaysia.   I thought it was Thai.

There is nothing exciting about the EEC.  It just reeks of an Army industrial park.

Would rather hear about cross border successes from real people, not a bunch of junta shills cozying up to the Chinese Government.

I think you're definitely correct. Far too many coincidences.

I've not looked at the subject extensively but the only nations that seem to have shown any backbone in dealing with China is Vietnam and the Philippines given their continued dispute over the South China Sea.

Philippines has done a thorough crawl down with Duterte. Dute is Xi's complete and utter stooge.

Vietnam is an interesting case. Is it still south Vietnamese that are putting up the good fight, like back in the good old days?

Chinese foreign direct investment in Thailand stood at around Bt260 billion last year.

"stood [?] around Bt260 billion last year" - Source for data and which means what?

Jan. 16, 2020:

https://www.benarnews.org/english/news/thai/economic-investment-01162020161823.html

  • The BOI has not released the actual value of foreign investments in 2019.
  • Foreign direct investment (FDI) applications from China, valued at U.S. $8.6 billion, comprised almost half of total foreign investment applications last year, $16.7 billion
  • “China became the number one foreign investor for the very first time,” - Japan was the second most active suitor in 2019, with investment applications valued at $2.4 billion, followed by Hong Kong ($1.2 billion), Switzerland ($800 million) and Taiwan ($700 million).

It appears that enterprises related to China's Silk Road economic program and Prayut's EEC development were the main recipients of China FDI.

Comparing to the first nine months of 2019:

https://www.thailand-business-news.com/business/76909-thailands-fdi-applications-up-69-in-the-first-nine-months-of-2019.html

  • The total value of FDI applications received by the BOI in the nine months to September increased 69% from the year earlier period, to a total value of 203.37 billion baht.
  • In terms of the source of the foreign direct investment applications, out of a total of 689 projects, Japanese companies, which have long been the largest source of Thailand’s FDIs, ranked first with applications for 167 projects worth 59.19 billion baht, followed by China, with 139 projects worth 45.44 billion baht, and Switzerland, with 15 projects worth 11.71 billion baht, BOI data showed.

So it was only in 2019Q4 that China surpassed Japan that made China #1 for FDI in Thailand for 2019? Feels like an accounting manipulation, ie., accelerating contract awards to China capitalized projects.

Vietnam has been at war for more than two thousand years with China, which is regularly beaten and retreated pitifully on its borders.
But for the past ten years China has found a new Trojan horse, to economically invade Vietnam as it has already done with Laos and Cambodia in Asia and with almost all the countries of Africa; and as it is doing with Thailand.

Vietnam will not resist much longer.
As for the Philippines, when the Americans abandon this country, it will fall like a ripe fruit in the arms of China.
