Thai security affairs adviser lashes out at US response to dissolution of Future Forward

Panitan Wattanayagorn

The adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister on Security Affairs, Panitan Wattanayagorn, has slammed the US Embassy’s criticism of the dissolution of the Future Forward Party as a “disenfranchising” of six million voters.

He said the US reaction was not appropriate and marked an interference in Thailand’s internal affairs by an outsider, but he added that he understood countries like the US would like to secure their advantages.

“I think they pretend to not understand what actually happened because some members of Future Forward Party are still able to work,” Panitan said.

“Our constitutional courts are quite the same. We do not allow transactions that would affect political parties and they know it. However, it has an effect on them since they could not easily put pressure on the Thai government. When they lost their alliance, they saw it as a disadvantage. The new ambassador is not familiar with Thai matters and we have to discuss it with him soon. Their criticism paints them in a negative light than us, as their political situation is even worse than Thailand's.”

He said the European Union showed more understanding and knowledge of the complex legal process even though they also had similar concerns as the US.

“It’s quite confusing why a big country [like the US] has allowed some children to write something on their official website. The US might just pretend to be an idiot. However, we don’t want to add anything more to rupture our diplomatic relationship.”

This crowd never cease to amaze me. Did they think they could just dissolve a major political rival without the rest of the world noticing or making comment? And to try to fight back with cheap insult

  • Yes, this is how you counter what you deem to be poor diplomacy.

It seems the United States is not the only "idiot" around who disagrees with the party dissolution: So.... is Mr. Panitan calling these law professors "idiots" as well? What is he going to

This crowd never cease to amaze me. Did they think they could just dissolve a major political rival without the rest of the world noticing or making comment? And to try to fight back with cheap insults like "idiot" or suggesting that they don't understand.

Oh, they understand crooked goings on all too well, as do those of us who live here and see such nefarious activities continuously.

The depth of desperation to cling to power is disgraceful.

speaking of children - whoever wrote that is a diplomatic genius

How's that for double talk

What is he going to do about it?

Perhaps, although they are Thai, they are "not familiar with Thai matters" and Mr. Panitan better "discuss it with them soon."

We have decided they are worse than us which makes us honest, decent and incorruptible. All this from a man whose academic qualifications were obtained in the U.S.

There is an idiot in the equation alright, but he doesn't need to look as far afield as America to find it. Quick look in the mirror should show him.

How so?

The US follow democratic process, allow free speech and even allow a candidate to spend $188million of his own money to fund his campaign.

...and not a coup in recent memory.

I genuinely have no idea what this person is trying to say. It's possible that the translation is flawed I suppose.

The lengths these lot will go to in order to remove the egg from their faces is ridiculous. Do they seriously think that people are that dumb and will swallow their BS whole without a single hiccup??

The people are waking up and your days are numbered. See you on the streets in 18 months.

Straight out of the China script book.

All that's missing is the other stereotypical Chinese response: it hurt the feelings of the entire Thai nation.

Throw them in jail? Or in a concentration camp to teach them thainess.

"complex legal matters". Translates to: don't talk to us about democracy and free speech.

"Our constitutional courts are quite the same."

If he went to the trouble of reading the old Thai constitution, he would find that some government officials would normally face the death penalty.

I see little evidence of the people waking up? Plenty of signs of continued apathy.

This is true. But it begins to boil in the Thai folk soul. The voices of 6 million critical Thai people are simply erased.

i kinda think my government would have a wee, tiny tad more credibility if we weren't regime-changing and droning wedding parties all over the planet.

maybe we could also consider criticizing the despotic authoritarian regimes we ourselves support......well, at least the ones that dismember journalists in their embassies.

This clown needs to pipe down. He was allowed to educate himself to get his Masters and PHD in the USA as the USA was kind enough to take him. Also, who does he think he is when 36 Thai law professors from Thammasat U who know the law better than him as his major was Poli Sci. Born in Yala, so sorry for him, but all of these Fatheads have to know that the world knows they are corrupt and just spat, or let's say took a dump on Thailand and its people. Shame on him and his fat mouth and shame on the all the others who conspired to scam the election and stay in power.

Calling the U.S an idiot, that's diplomacy for you.
