The authorities at Suvarnabhumi airport are clamping down on Illegal taxis and touts preying on tourists.

They are doing this by charging anyone caught with trespass that means they could face 5 years in jail or a 100, 000 baht fine or both.

Siam Rath reported that they caught one taxi driver touting for business at the weekend inside the airport.

CCTV showed Chatchai, 34, leading two tourists out to his private car.

The tourists were advised to use the rank for their own safety. Chatchai was charged with trespass in the airport.

Airport deputy chief Kittipong Kittkhajorn said that he had received reports of overcharging, passengers being abandoned and having to change cabs mid journey.

This was bad for the image of Thailand.

He warned black plate cabbies and touts to stay away or face the consequences.

That's a bit harsh; in Phuket you can kill a motorcyclist and keep your license without even getting a crease in your trousers.

Not surprise at all in a country that stands upside down with there's chicken brain the size that can easily fits in a pinky toe finger what can you expect.

Understand amazing Thailand everyone

Charged how much... not 100,000 baht and no jail...

so just threats and no action as usual, just a minimal fine lining someones pocket?

Charge the people who use them, too in addition.

Personally I do not understand why people use taxis a departure level just to save 50 Baht?

At arrival level you get a registered taxi with the name and details of the driver, so it is very safe and convenient in case you forgot something on that taxi.
