Gas cylinder colours

Hoping someone can explain the difference in the 3 gas cylinder colours red blue and a turquoise green. 

Given the price difference im assuming an expiration date on the bottle but I am clueless. 

Probably going to order 1 from lazada only after a small 4kg.

It's the type of gas within and the regulator fitting.

• What type of gas do you need?
• Regulator fitting (male, female, push-on)?
• How are you going to get it re-filled?

Assuming it's not a specialist gas get one from your local gas chap and exchange for a full one when empty.

Different colors for different supply companies ? Green ones are "bor tor tor. (PTT) The government feul supplier.

Well that is not what I expected! 

Was planning on going to the local gas guy for the refill part but liked to be armed with a little knowledge before that. 

LPG is the gas I need and I have the hose and regulator male type. Standard aussie fitting. 

Was planning on getting one of the cheap gas burners to mount on as well, though pretty sure I will require some type of adapter for that.

Just get one from the local gas guy. All the hoses, regs, adapters can be found in a mom and pop hardware store.

Yeah I woulda just grabbed the regulator here when I purchased the gas bottle and burner rather than bringing one from AUS not knowing if it compatible.

As above, just regular LPG "cooking gas", get a bottle at any gas place. Some people like to keep "their" bottle and get it filled, but not all places do that. We do as the locals do, simply swap the empty for a full one (just reject the replacement if it looks to ratty).

 

Regs there as well, but if the current reg has a male, left-hand thread then it will fit (one from the UK fits).

 

EDIT This thread just reminded me that our bottle ran out last week (we keep two so Madam gets uninterrupted cooking). So thanks for that, I will visit the gas place forthwith.

Yeah good old swap and go, cept here at my house the misso just calls the gas dude and he shows up within 10 minutes with a fresh bottle.....

Good reminder, Having a BBQ this arvo so will get a fresh BBQ bottle delivered !!

We're spoilt, we just ring the guy, he arrives within 15 minutes with a bottle and swaps it over etc, all we do is pay him. Never even touch it. ????????

I don't think we are talking about the same thing. I have had a close look and they all appear to be LPG and from what I can tell the fittings are much the same. I am aware that colour coding is used for different types of gas but that is not the differences I'm referring to here.

 

Thanks for all the peripheral tips but I really want to know what is different with the bottles. It could just be a different supplier but the large cost difference makes me think not. 

 

I have plenty of places to go to purchase so really just after information about the different colours I'm chasing.

If they really do have the same fitting then they're regular LPG, in which case I have no idea why a large price difference. You could try asking the gas supplier.

 

Perhaps a link to the different bottles on Lazada would help us.

The LPG bottle gas price for new and refill are quite close between brands. Be sure you are comparing same size bottle when checking prices as not all use same weight range.

 

The 4kg with vertical picnic connector can be more expensive when calculating gas content.

 

 

Examples of the many LPG bottle variations but Baht/kg is about the same.

 

Colors - Green, Blue, Red, Orange

 

Size - 4kg, 7kg, 11.5kg, 13.5kg, 15kg, 48kg

Great thanks for the comprehensive answer I was just using the links as color images I didn't even look at that sizes.

 

But you can see from these two links they are both empty bottles virtually identical but have a significant price difference. Noting that they are both delivered from Lazada empty.

Those are 4kg picnic sets. Go to your local gas shop to make proper bottle price comparison for new and refill.

Our local gas shop does all the PTT size bottles, regulators, and gas rings to fit a bottle too. He delivers and connects the full bottle. How very civilized......????

Just bought a new "safety" regulator, think it was 600bht, 15kg bottle was under 500bht, lasts me about 3 months..

As mentioned before  blue one is "World gas"  green is "PTT"  orange is Unique gas,  all LPG  there are not many places that will re-fill  your own bottle..they mostly insist on an exchange  that must be of the same  color bottle.

Some "unscrupulous" ?  LPG stations have used vehicle  LPG because its slightly cheaper ( subsidised more) than cooking LPG

vehicle stations (mostly) will not fill up a cooking bottle for you I think its actually against the law for them to do it..but no doubt some would do it.

Yes thanks following from your earlier lead that is what I found out. 

 

It still seems odd to me that the orange unique gas bottle that is available for 740b on Lazada that the same gas bottle from PTT the green one start in about 1200b. I guess it's just the same market forces that allow large incumbent companies everywhere to charge more for much the same product. 

 

Wonder when I go for an exchange if they exchange it for the same companies bottle.

one needs to understand what LPG means !!  can be Propane or Butane and here in Thailand may even be a mix ?? haha

In Europe Propane is blue and Butane is Green and they ARE different with different burn characteristics ! Eg Propane not for use in cold climates as it may freeze  . Also , in Europe , the burner nozzles are different to reflect the different heat characteristics.   Butane has higher heat efficiency and therefore more expensive AND the pressures are different .  One MUST match the the regulator and the appliance burner nozzles to the type of gas / gas bottle used .
