Govt: Covid-19 Fund established for public participation

BANGKOK(NNT)-The establishment of the Covid-19 Fund has raised questions as to why the government doesn’t use the budget from the huge relief package which includes cash giveaways instead of accepting donations to address the situation.

The government has explained that the proposed 2000-baht payment to low-income earners is one of the measures to help those affected by the outbreak of Covid-19, focusing on the most affected groups including low-income earners, farmers and freelancers. While they receive assistance via the state welfare card every month, it is not enough to sustain them.

The new fund calling for voluntary donations generates another source of money besides the national budget to deal with the Covid-19 situation. It was established because the private sector had expressed its wish to make donations to the government so that it can help those affected by the outbreak of Covid-19. Therefore, for transparency, accountability and for those wishing to show kindness to their fellow Thais in a time of need, the government has opened a bank account to accept donations.

Yeah, ok! Sounds honest!

Just another GoFundMe black hole.

With all the giveaways to make the people happy, infrastructure spending to make the politicians happy, and military purchases to make the generals happy, makes you think they might be going broke!

Unbelievable, and the people get raked over the coals over and over, and the government asked them for money for everything-they are supposed to do policing as well.

So the government are admitting that the assistance given by the state welfare system is not enough!! Rather than give a 2000 baht hand out which will probably go on cheap whiskey and gambling, why not increase the minimum wage or increase the state welfare so that there is enough to sustain low income earners! Short term populist solutions will not work in the long term!
