webfact Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Covid-19: Pattaya will survive Songkran ban as hotelier suggests they'll do their own thing Picture: 77kaoded A leading hotelier has said that the cancellation of many events including Songkran in Pattaya will surely have an impact on the hotel business but adjustments can be made to make the best of it. Sanpetch Suphabuansathian was speaking as a senior executive of the Anchalee Wiwat group that runs 9 major hotels. He is also the chief of the hoteliers' association of the eastern seaboard, notes Thaivisa. He said that hotels will face cancellations at Songkran with the ban on public activities associated with moves to stop the spread of Covid-19. This will affect both the Asian and European markets. But his hotels will need to adjust by organizing their own low key cultural events on their own grounds. His group's establishments have a lot of space to do so, he said, so he was confident that his guests would not miss out on their Songkran experience though it will not involve any water wars. He thought that other hotels in Pattaya would also be affected but would cope with the cancellation of Songkran and other large events. With that statement coming less than ten days after a local hotel I used to eat at regularly for years having closed down, I would like to buy half an ounce of whatever he has been smoking please. 8

The Thai adjustment being this: increase in the price of rooms to compensate for the smaller arrivals of customers . But European customers were not born from the last rain ... It may not work 2 1 1

A real traditional Songkran, have never involved any water wars. Song Kran is a holiday for showing respect to your elders and sprinkle water on them for good luck, as well as a family get together. 9 4

Popular Post ianezy0 Posted March 9, 2020 Popular Post Posted March 9, 2020 This is going to be the lowest of the lowest low season in Pattaya. All things have culminated in the past 12 months and the coming low season will feel the brunt. 1. 800k in bank. 2. Health Insurance. 3. Positive proof of discrimination against expat community. 4. Immigration crack downs. 5. Declining exchange rates. 6. Covid-19 outbreak. 7. Water shortage. 8. Air pollution. It’s a sad reality. 4 1

atyclb Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 never seen pattaya so quiet. the big fancy indian restaurants across 2nd road from central festival were empty, zero customers dinner prime time so it seems the indian tourists are not coming either
RichardColeman Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 I'd like to think that if low season gets 'that' low we may all get a buy on get one free lady from a bar, but I doubt it, and if we did, I dare say the free one would be twice the weight of the first one ! 1
terminatorchiangmai Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Big hotel chains and restaurants will survive. The smaller entrepreneurs will go bankrupt soon.

The true, traditional Songkran, is a beautiful and low key ceremony, enjoyed specially by the older Citizens who have respect placed upon then by the younger Generations. 1
glennb6 Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 there's the party element that may miss the crazyness, there's the expat element that probably will call it a blessing, and on balance I doubt that canceling Songkran will mean much economically one way or the other. Problems as stated by ianezy0 above are the real issues.
