VIDEO: Dramatic moment cabin crew restrain passenger who deliberately COUGHED at them

A dramatic video purports to show the moment cabin crew tackle a passenger who deliberately coughed at them.

The footage of the incident, which is said to have taken place on a Thai Airways flight in Shanghai on Friday (6 March), was shared online by YouTube user Fugu M.

It was claimed that the plane had landed at Pudong International Airport in Shanghai but passengers were forced to remain in the plane for seven hours as a result of tighter screening procedures in place at the airport.

Due to the delay, some passengers became irate, with one female passenger showing her anger by deliberately coughing on staff in a bid to get them to open the plane’s doors so passengers could disembark.

“One Chinese woman went stir crazy on a Thai Airways flight and deliberately coughed on a female flight attendant to try to pressure staff to open the doors and let her out”, Fugu M wrote in a post.

“Senior male flight attendant was having none of it, warned her, then a scuffle ensued.

“He was going to put her in cuffs, but eventually chose not to.”

Footage shows the woman being restrained by an air steward, while other members of the cabin crew, who can be seen wearing face masks come to his assistance. One member of the crew can be heard saying “stay down! Stay down, please!”

Channel 7 spoke to Thai Airways, who confirmed the incident occurred on 6 March on flight at TG 664 Bangkok-Shanghai.

A spokesperson for the airline said the plane landed at the airport but was notified by the authorities on the ground that all passengers and staff arriving at the airport would be required to undergo intensive screening procedures and that due to a backlog it would be seven hours before they could leave the flight.

The airline said that once the situation was properly explained to the irate passenger who had coughed at cabin crew, the passenger remained calm and agreed to sit and wait for the screening procedure to begin.

Surprised to see so many on the plane?

Why is THAI still flying to China when most other airlines in the region and internationally have stopped their China flights? Even Lao Airlines has stopped flying to China. The national airline of a country even more dependent on China than Thailand. All China bound flights out of Vietnam have stopped. Qantas has stopped it's Sydney-Shanghai flights and reduced frequency on the Hong Kong flights. USA-China flights are mostly suspended.

But not Thailand? Gosh...words escape me.

Nobody complaining about sitting in a plane on the tarmac for 7 hours, what a joke.

Unfortunately there is not enough room for them to kick her in the head repeatedly!

7hrs on the tarmac..geeze!..I hope they were at least serving drinks.

too bad they weren't in flight, could have reduced altitude and chucked her out..

The PRC Chinese are belligerent and uncouth fliers.

They completely ignore safety directives from staff to raise tables and open window shades etc., never turn electronic devices off when asked, encroach into others' spaces when flying in economy, bring their own food and snacks onto the plane and ignore boarding announcements and queues.

I've had a Chinese person put their bare feet on my armrest during a flight back from working in Europe, had one sat behind me belching and farting while swigging grog from what looked like a cider jug on the way to HK and had one forcefully push into me while queuing to go to work at DMK... when I firmly stood my ground he lost his balance and ended up ricocheting into a Thai family then onto the ground.

I wonder if the silly perp was trying a variation copycat of the asian lady on the train who coughed and filmed the falang old lady covering her face

This one one of those cases where you kind of wish the airline staff were issued with taser guns to deal with unruly passengers....

But on the flip side.... 7 hours wait on the airplane post arrival due to health screening at Shanghai/Pudong?

Perhaps the Chinese authorities there have about as much belief in the Thai public health officials' coronavirus case reporting data for Thailand as most of us do!!!!

claustrophobia can make people do the most ridiculous things. seven hours being locked up in a plane does not make much sense.

thailand depends on china tourism big style...they kicked out all the westerners by making their currency expensive and introducing lots of strange rules for them only...thailand decidet that chinese are big spenders and dont stink like western falangs do...also they blend in better...so corona never mind, just dont test them, as long they bring CASH

thai air should seriously consider limiting their flights to china.

i think the hysteria could be due to claustrophobia.

Not only coughing but I hear lots of dirty looks. Anarchy!

Won't be long now before deliberate coughing will carry an attempted murder charge

Money...if they cancel the flight they will need to make refunds. I want to cancel my flight to Australia. If I do I lose my money. Singapore airlines haven't as yet cancelled the flight (but I can delay flying until Aug 31st which is no use to me. Or fly and take the risk.

Hey, at least they did not squat a pooh pooh at their seat.

I did a 90 min lock in on an Eva flight to Heathrow two weeks ago after 6 Indians got ejected via the back of the plane after 13 hours of coughing and spluttering I can tell you it was a flight from hell so seven hours you would start to go mental for sure????

I think this news is hiding something to us.
I speak Chinese, I lived in China for many years, and generally the Chineses have this kind of reactions when they are discriminated against.
Perhaps, the news is fallacious. I wouldn't rule out an unsubtle attitude on the part of the Thai staff...

For clarity I have copied your post above from the other, now closed, thread.

Generally the Chinese have this kind of reaction when they have lost face or have not got their way in some matter.  Discrimination has nothing to do with it.

She was not allowed to leave the plane because of the restrictions imposed by her own country.  I would love to have seen how the Shanghai authorities reacted if she coughed at them after disembarking!  Coughing at, or spitting on, another person is absolutely disgusting; and in many countries is considered to be criminal assault.

Strange times.
