Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun hospital prices

Featured Replies

How much cheaper is this hospital compared to other private hospitals? For example, if surgery cost 50,000 at Bumrungrad and half that much at Saint Louis, approximately what would it cost here?

Some foreigners can get the local price but I've checked and I would have to pay 25% extra so I'm wondering if that wipes out any savings.

The 25% extra is at Siraj Hospital, a government hospital. Not at Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun which is a private hospital. No one gets government price there and as far as I know costs are same regardless of nationality.

Roughly it costs about 80% what Bumrungrad etc do or about the same as mid range (price wise) private hospitals.

No surgery at Bumrungrad costs as little as 50,000. Nor at St Louis (much less galf that). About 6 times that for simple surgeries like appendectomy or gall bladder. So you may be in for a seriois shock.

The only places where surgery is that inexpensive would be at a government hospital. And that only for fairly simple surgery not involving imported prosthesis (like stents or titanium screws).

The 25% foreigner surcharge at Siriraj public hospital is I think for the OPD. I doubt inpatient charges are 25% higher though I could be wrong. But even if so will still be about 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of a private hospital. And there are other government hospitals which charge foreigners and Thais the same.

Stil, even at a government hospital with no foreigner surcharge it us possible for bills to reach a billion baht in case of catastrophic accident or illness requiring prolonged ICU care, specialized surgeries etc.

The cost difference between private and government hospitals is betweeb 3 to 5 fold depending on the procedure. But all costs are substantially higher than yoy seem to expect.

Thanks for the information Sheryl. I just put forward the 50,000 baht as a hypothetical number, not an estimate. However, the surgery is to fix a broken little toe that is not healing so I would indeed be surprised if that cost 300,000 baht. A trip back to the UK for NHS treatment is what I would do rather than pay that amount.

Actually, I just checked again and that notice was on the Siriraj government hospital website so you're probably right. So is Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun about the same price as Saint Louis or cheaper?

Really? That's $33 Million US dollars

She meant a million.

That's easily possible.

Places like Bangkok Hospital have many cases of 1 or 2 millions.

5 millions can happen.

8 or 10 millions is very rare,  but happens.

Yes, I meant a million. Typo, sorry.

About the same as St Louis or a little more.

If you are looking there because you are on that side of the river, I would suggest Thonburi Hospital instead, many of the Profs from Siriraj work there and will cost a little less.

If on the Bangkok side of the river, St Louis or Bangkok Christian would be good choices.

@SherylI'm in outer Sukhumvit but I just want to see a good foot and ankle specialist and the doctor you recommended to someone in a thread from a few years back (Dr Bavornrit Chuckpaiwong) works at the private Siriraj hospital more often than at Bumrungrad. I've been paying 3-3,500 baht per appointment at Sikarin so I'm not worried about an extra thousand or so. If it needs surgery I'll just fly back to the UK rather than pay silly money.

I sent an email to this hospital and was given an appointment with Dr Bavornrit Chuckpaiwong. I turned up on time only to be told the doctor was not available. I was eventually seen by the doctor but he was obviously rushing and then accused me of turning up late. He apologised when I told him I'd arrived on time. He had to rush off and tell me the results of the X-ray by phone. This has left me very disappointed as I didn't get a chance to see the X-ray or to ask questions that are on my mind. I can't recommend this hospital or this doctor and the cost was the same as Sikarin hospital. The good news is I don't need surgery. The bad news I've been booked for yet another X-ray and appointment in 2 weeks.

Paid 160k baht for an appendectomy at Bangkok Pattaya this week. Included CT scans and X-Rays in ER prior to op and 2 nights stay.
