Somsak Thepsuthin, Minister of Justice

The Cabinet has approved in principle removing kratom leaves from Category V of Thailand’s list of narcotics.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisulee Traisoranakul said on Tuesday (March 10) that the Cabinet had approved the Ministry of Justice’s draft Narcotics Act which proposes removing kratom from Category V of Thailand’s list of narcotics and cancel penalties for offences relating to kratom.

“The cancellation, including certain restrictions related to medical use, are meant to align it with the current environment where people, especially farmers and labourers in the southern region, consumed kratom leaves,” she said.

“Also, classifying kratom as narcotics made it impossible to tap its potential for commercial and industrial use, details of which will be prepared later.”

She added that currently there are only four countries that classified kratom as narcotics -- Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea and India.

“Internationally, kratom was not classified as narcotics or controlled under international narcotic laws,” she added.

And how many more years will it take until their draft law is finalized?

How many years do I read about legalizing kratom? Can't tell.

This tree is native to Thailand yet its one of the rare country that banned it's use. This should be fixed!

Not true but what do you expect from Thai government spokesperson...

Both Germany and Switzerland have banned Kratom since 2017 due to.it containing the  Alkaloid Mitragynin and 7-Hydroxymitragynin

Possible but the US does not prohibit it's use (but the DEA did try) and it's not included in the UN's Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs.

Never tried but I've understood it's just about as dangerous as caffeine.

It was a lot more dangerous to Thailand's opium trade hence the prohibition.

Edit: it lessens opioid withdrawals symptoms without the addiction.

they're still trying to have it banned and there are states where it is illegal. imo big pharma is scared of it for there has been some cases where it has aided in opioid withdrawal and they don't want anyone cashing in (except themselves) on the problem they created..

Its definitely stronger than caffeine....I tried it once....And I was not all that impressed with it....But if others like it that's fine by me...

The law will be finalised when the right circles found a way to cash in on that.

Same with the hemp and cannabis decriminalisation.

Especially for hemp there has been a slow progress and a lot going on behind closed doors.

But suddenly, out of nowhere, you will see hemp and CBD products from the big well known companies and the SMEs and farmers are again the stupid one's

In the case of Thailand it was prohibited before the US war on drugs.

"In 1943, the Thai government passed what is known as the Kratom Act 2486. This act made it illegal to plant kratom trees. The reason for this law was actually to curb and regulate the overall use of opium in the region, but the effects were long lasting on kratom use as well."

And the effect is about the same, or less.

I agree with your statement, but seriously how hard is it to cash in on cannabis(not the low thc nonsense), I'd say not very hard at all

and ecstasy also please ❤️

Now that we have a lot of legal cannabis oil it would be great to have some legal X ❤️

Absolutely, Tax incomes have skyrocketed in countries/states that legalised cannabis.

Not to mention income of private businesses.
