Trump suspends all travel from Europe to the United States to fight coronavirus

Featured Replies

Has Trump considered that the UK only having 459 cases, whereas other major countries like France, Germany, Italy or Spain have at least four times more cases has more to do with the poor NHS health service in the UK not being as thorough as the much better health services in German, France, Spain and Italy in identifying cases?

The UK has massive links to Hong Kong, one of the few countries in Europe with a vibrant Chinatown, London is one of the global travel hubs and has four times less cases than Spain? Seems a bit unbelievable.

  • It doesnt matter what he does. It will be critisized. Good move on his part anyway and a great speech.   Now I will make another cup of coffee and watch the haters fill their echo chamber.

  • Hes not "my man", but he evidently  is your nightmare. And you too have shown yourself a hater, but here lets try just to make sure: Do you associate any of the following terms with a person that vote

  • This from the lips of the man who told us less than a week ago there was nothing to worry about. Mind you he also said that about the Stock Market.  Vote for someone you can trust !!

It's not about hate, it's about trust in his and his administration's ability to take the appropriate actions and communicate information to the public.

The stock market is certainly reacting to his failure to lead on this topic.  If they felt confident in the president, the market would have settled out in a much more orderly fashion after pricing in the potential impact to the economy.  The volatility going on right now is the result of their lack of trust.

Was it a good move?  I think so.  But, I also think it's quite sad that we only got here because Trump has been forced into a corner.  Rather than taking aggressive action over the last few weeks, he's been busy trying to downplay it and contradicting his own disease control experts.

The market, which he sees as some sort of barometer of his popularity, is telling him very clearly that they're not buying the "we'll have a vaccine - and maybe even a cure - in a few months" or "when the weather gets warmer, it'll miraculously disappear" shtick.

So, yes, it's time he finally realized that he can't sweep this under the rug and he has to do something.

This is about a virus and its effects on people and the economy and the stock markets .

Very little that Trump can do to effect those things .

No dude, its about hate and rage. You see it here. You may be a non hater yourself, but that doesnt change the fact that many of the folks cheering for the virus to topple Trump are haters that are actively acting against the interests of the country.

Obviously, there's no one price for anything in the US healthcare system because hospitals are privatized and there's all sorts of costs depending on whether you've reached your max out of pocket expenses and such.

But here's at least one article I found (there are tons) which show prices being all over the place.

What a strangely defensive thing to think, let alone publicly express?

Was that a fox news chyron today?

Are these "haters" passengers?

Most planes have a co-pilot. You know, in case of impeachment or the 25th Amendment.

Maybe now Americans will understand why a good healthcare system is so important lol

I agree with the  travel restriction. Sadly, not a particularly reassuring speech and he makes this move with reluctance. He has to show that he is protecting the USA. No idea why UK not restricted. Unfortunately, the UK is in shambles and has not been screening or tracking  people. Bad news for Canadians too  as  Europeans will try and circumvent the travel ban  and travel via Canada. Canada does not restrict travel and does not screen travelers.

People have to accept that they should not travel for 30 days. If it is critical travel they will be allowed, but otherwise it is nothing more than an inconvenience.

No they will never understand it.

No it's better to have $100 more per month in one's pocket and risking bankruptcy over a medical bill.

I didn't say that Trump could do anything about the virus itself.  Unlike the president himself, I don't believe he has a "knack" for understanding medicine.  I don't expect him to be working in the lab side-by-side with the doctors on coming up with a vaccine.

But, I do believe that the office of the president can calm the situation and that is where I feel Trump has not done a very good job.  Like, he can quit contradicting his own experts.

First off, living in Thailand, we saw the virus first.  We got a chance to see how quickly it spread when the government didn't take it seriously and how quickly confirmed cases dropped once the government started acting.

So, it's a little easier to see that Trump's attempts to downplay it were not going to work out well.  And they didn't.  And the markets gave him a wake up call on that point.

Yes, part of the volatility is due to the uncertain effects on the economy.  But, it's also, largely, a vote on people's confidence that the president and the administration is prepared to execute a plan to limit the damage to the economy.

That's about trust.  And that is something Trump can control.

Bull***. He self insures and pays cash. You dont live in the USA IIRC and have no idea of how the system works. So your pulling some figure out of the air and spouting off to start a troll war about the supposed superiority of medical care in the entire world vis a vis the primitive USA is nothing more than...a troll.

On the contrary, Rep Ruben (D-AZ) announced on Tuesday that he will introduce a bill that would make Medicare cover testing for and treatment of C19 free to patients. Saving lives the practical way and not by continuous falsehood statements to blindside the people.
