  • It doesnt matter what he does. It will be critisized. Good move on his part anyway and a great speech.   Now I will make another cup of coffee and watch the haters fill their echo chamber.

  • Hes not "my man", but he evidently  is your nightmare. And you too have shown yourself a hater, but here lets try just to make sure: Do you associate any of the following terms with a person that vote

  • This from the lips of the man who told us less than a week ago there was nothing to worry about. Mind you he also said that about the Stock Market.  Vote for someone you can trust !!

indeed there is nothing to worry about.

i mean, you can't stop all life and work and travel because of a virus.

it is just imposible.

way more people will die because of the unprecedented economic crisis that

this travel and movement ban will create, than from this virus.

it is the idiots from the WHO who drive the world crazy.

they are too hysteric and academic.

you can't stop life in order to stop a virus from spreading.

soon they will realise it and all will go back to normal, with new

virus in the air.

Looks like the US CDC has yet to update their own coronavirus travel info webpage as yet......

Still only showing China and Iran with entry bans on coming into the U.S.

If, some years from now, this turns out to be a sinister conspiracy to reverse

globalism, it will go down as one of the most diabolical but effective means

ever drummed up.

it is in fact a serious public health matter

much more serious problem will be this travel ban.

many more lives will be destroyed by it.

trump know it, he knows that there is over reaction to this virus,

he knows that millions of lives will be destroyed, if you stop travel

and block economies like that. riots, violence, even world war can start

just like that, because of few months of blockage.

but he was propably pressed by his advisors and other ministers to

do so.

Supposedly, the U.S. insurance industry told Trump the other day that they would waive co-pays/deductibles at least for CV testing for Americans with health insurance. But I haven't heard peepers about what's supposed to happen for the many Americans who, thanks to Trump, DON'T have any health insurance whatsoever.

Very true but in Trumps speech he doesn't say it only applies to U.K citizens.

He says travel from the U.K isn't restricted...

This is about a virus and its effects on people and the economy and the stock markets .

Very little that Trump can do to effect those things .

That's simply wrong.  It's true the virus is the virus and no one can change that. But the rate at which the infections spread, and how many people will get sick and die, all can be influenced by the responses (or lack thereof) of the federal government and the public health authorities.

The U.S., sitting on the sidelines and watching the virus slowly explode in China, had a chance to get out in front of this thing, advance order and stock medical supplies, ramp up the capacity for CV testing, various other measures. But instead, because of Trump, much of the U.S. govt diddled, denied and deflected until things began to go bad, as they are going now.

The U.S. lost its chance at early intervention and prevention, and now is going to pay a price for those failures... and a lot of that failure is directly attributable to Trump and his various lies and misstatements on the reality of CV.

I think it is true to say that most of the world is now looking like they dropped the ball on this one, China kept it hidden for at least a month before the true nature of this was understood almost 8 weeks later

Which medical supplies are in short supply now in the USA ?

Is there a shortage of CV testing kits in the USA , but saying that, if anyone has flu like symptoms, they really should be self isolating anyway ?

You would have hoped Trump could have at least gotten his speech right the first time around, but that I guess was too much to be hoped for... So now, after the fact, we get all the corrections, clarifications, amplifications:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/coronavirus-global-pandemic-outbreak-spreading/2020/03/11/246998ec-63b6-11ea-b3fc-7841686c5c57_story.html

--restricting travel to the United States from Europe (excluding the UK) for 30 days, beginning Friday at midnight.

Quote

Trump initially described his restrictions on travel from Europe as a total ban, telling the nation that the United States “will be suspending all travel from Europe to the United States for the next 30 days” and saying that “these prohibitions will not only apply to the tremendous amount of trade and cargo but various other things as we get approval. Anything coming from Europe to the United States is what we are discussing.”

The president corrected himself on Twitter shortly after the Oval Office speech, noting that “trade will in no way be affected by the 30-day restriction on travel from Europe. The restriction stops people not goods.”

Ken Cuccinelli, acting deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, also tweeted a clarification, saying that the restrictions do not apply “to American citizens or legal permanent residents or their families,” indicating that the restrictions would apply only to foreign nationals.

Although I can't think of any particular country off the top of my head, I'm sure there were some that did all they could and deserve a pat on the back.  But most of the rest sat there like deer caught in the headlights.

And @TallGuyJohninBKK is dead on.  It didn't have to go this way.  The US had several weeks to get out ahead of this but Trump was too concerned about the optics of it so he downplayed it rather than putting the US on high-alert and giving people the resources they need.

What measures should Donald have taken and how should he have put the USA on "high alert"?

There are shortages of everything, and if you don't realize that, you haven't been paying attention:

N95 masks, gloves, gowns and CV testing kits to be sure.

“As the president said, anyone who on a doctor's order wants to be tested, can, at a doctor's indication, be tested now,” Pence said.

Not so, says physician and epidemiologist Michael Mina, who helps run the diagnostic lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and has been critical of the Trump administration in blistering tweets. “The reality is most people will not be able to get a test this week, and most people will not be able to get a test next week,” Mina says.

Some Hospitals Are Close to Running Out of Crucial Masks for Coronavirus

N95 masks are essential for protecting health care workers and controlling the epidemic, but some hospitals have been unable to get new shipments as supplies dwindle.
...

With global supplies already depleted from the outbreak in China and manufacturers facing an explosion of new orders as the virus spreads, some hospitals in the United States have been unable to get new shipments of N95 masks or even an estimate of when they might become available.
...

The federal government’s Strategic National Stockpile of medical supplies includes 12 million medical-grade N95 masks and 30 million surgical masks — only about one percent of the 3.5 billion that the Department of Health and Human Services estimates would be needed over the course of a year if the outbreak reaches pandemic levels.

It’s not simply what he should have done, it’s also what he should not have done; firing the pandemic response team and cutting funding to the CDC being examples.

The first thing he needs to get right is credibility, sadly that horse has already bolted.

Is it Donalds job to order supplies for Hospitals ?

I would have thought that hospitals themselves would order their own supply's and not rely on Donald to order their supplies

Where has it been said that only U.K passport holders will be able to travel to US from U.K ??

Please provide a credible link because I can't find one anywhere !!

Let's not be deliberately stupid here... It's the president's job to marshal and direct the resources of the federal government. That includes the Dept of HHS and the CDC, which are responsible for coordinating the U.S. CV response. And their duties include ensuring that states and localities across the country, as well as the federal governnment, have access to the resources they need.

Do you honestly think, that the US CDC needs Donald Trump to tell them what to do? Certain functions require President approval , example allocating some additional funds, some coordinating inter agency, but they know what to do.

The first measure he could have taken was to take the virus seriously and not go on TV and tell people that it was no worse than the flu and that it would magically disappear on its own or that there was a vaccine that was probably going to be available in a few months when his own people, in the same meeting he said it, told him it would be more like 12 - 18 months.

We all knew about the washing your hands and avoiding crowds thing weeks and weeks ago when it was spreading through Thailand and Asia.  He could have started getting that information out there to the American public long before the US had even their first case.

The thing about viruses is that you may not be able to prevent them from getting to the US, but you can slow down how quickly they spread once they arrive.  He waited until it spread before he started to act.

It's quite obvious that he's operating on his back foot right now.  He's reacting to the news as it unfolds.  That doesn't inspire confidence and that's why you're seeing markets react so terribly to his rather lackluster plans.  That's not Trump hating or Trump bashing, that is about as clear a sign as you can get because it's the worldwide consensus of investors.

People want to hear a plan.

And before you ask what type of plan I would like to hear, I don't know.  I'm not president of the United States.  He ran for the job and now it's his.  It's his job to figure out what the American people and investors need to hear.

Fair enough, its the POTUS's job to make sure Hospitals dont run out of supplies

I'll just send Trump  a message and remind him to get some face masks ordered and some hand gel ......and also some toilet paper as well, just incase people panic buy

Look up the recovery rate from this virus. Sure don't want it spread, but seriously, you have a far higher chance of dying from the flu. Why is everyone here crying like an old grandma?

This is a man's world! Were all gonna die!
