BANGKOK (Reuters) - A Thai foreign exchange firm is disinfecting banknotes it collects from its branches as a safety precaution for its workers and customers because of the coronavirus outbreak.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday declared a national emergency over the fast-spreading coronavirus to open up $50 billion (£40.5 million) in federal aid and said he would "most likely" be tested for the virus soon himself after facing possible exposure.

GENEVA (Reuters) - Europe has now become the epicentre of a coronavirus pandemic that has claimed 5,000 lives around the world, "a tragic milestone", the World Health Organization said on Friday.

Five military commanders and police chief reject pay as senators

Supreme Commander General Pornpipat said today that he and Defence Permanent Secretary General Nath Intharacharoen, Army Commander-in-chief General Apirat Kongsompong, Royal Thai Navy C-in-C Admiral Luechai Rootdit, Air Force C-in-C Air Chief Marshal Manit Wongwart and National Police Chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda had discussed their salaries and fringe benefits as senators and agreed not to accept them from now until their retirement on September 3rd, 2020.

All arrangements in place for live broadcast of Tokyo Olympics

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports and Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) have joined hands with the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), the National Olympic Committee of Thailand (NOCT), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the private sector to organise “Road to Tokyo 2020” to broadcast the Olympic Games live from Tokyo. Thai fans can also send their moral support to athletes at the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

Thai AirAsia X suspends Japan, S Korea flights

Thai AirAsia X is suspending flights between Bangkok and Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, Nagoya and Fukuoka in Japan from March 16 to June 16 and between Bangkok and Seoul-Incheon from March 17 to 28 in response to the Covid-19 outbreak.

SET rebounds from slump on Thursday

Hotel blamed after panic over Norwegian with coronavirus proves groundless

Thai media reported that the Bang Saen beach area of Chonburi was thrown into panic after a hotel reported that a Norwegian man had apparently come down with coronavirus and was refusing treatment and potentially spreading the virus over the area.
