Hotel blamed after panic over Norwegian with coronavirus proves groundless

Thai media reported that the Bang Saen beach area of Chonburi was thrown into panic after a hotel reported that a Norwegian man had apparently come down with coronavirus and was refusing treatment and potentially spreading the virus over the area.

It proved to be complete nonsense. The man was more likely suffering the effects of drinking alcohol and hardly any food, said an unhappy trader.

The S2 Hotel posted that a Norwegian guest at the hotel who had flown direct to Thailand was coughing and went to Burapha University Hospital with a suspected lung infection. The hotel added further that the man refused to be admitted.

He was told that he was not welcome back at the hotel whose management went so far as to warn other establishments in the area about him and put up a picture of the Norwegian at the hotel.

There were fears that the foreigner would spread the virus on popular Bang Saen beach where he had been spending much of his holiday.

Later the hospital said that the foreigner had no fever and was fine. He refused to cooperate and checked himself out. He was due to fly home that day.

The S2 Hotel had to post that they got it wrong and he didn't have Covid-19.

Reporters from kaoded77 went there and found cleaning going on in only one room.

Khwanjai, a food seller opposite the hotel, said that the foreigner had been in Thailand for a fair time and used to come in and have a plate of krapow and fried egg every day.

He would drink several bottles of alcohol per day and wouldn't eat much.

This, she said, was why he wasn't feeling too good. She criticised the overreaction that created a panic in the area.

Haha, but you missed the 3 lottery ticket vendors, the 2 massage ladies, the fake watch seller and the shrimp lady who ran like heck and didn't stop until they got to Chachoengsao.

Several SangSom bottles keeps the virus away.

That Norwegian man should sue the hotel for damage to personal image.

He checked out the day he was due to fly home ? Something fishy here !

Or maybe he did have the virus and the hotel plus hospital were given the word by Puyai to change their story.

I find it hard to believe that a hotel is groundless. I thought that all that electrical stuff had been sorted.

Other countries one would have the hotel for not only defamation, but breach of privacy and medical confidentiality
