The Ministry of Public Health on Saturday (March 14) assigned the role of communicable disease control officers to additional personnel under the Communicable Disease Act BE 2558 with immediate effect.

The announcement signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health, Anutin Charnvirakul, stipulates that officials under the Ministry of Interior, including governors, district chiefs, subdistrict headmen and village headmen as well as officials under administration offices at provincial, district and subdistrict levels will assume the roles of communicable disease control officers and actively monitor the situation of the new coronavirus (Covid-19) in their responsible areas.

Communicable disease control officers will have the authority to summon any persons for interview as well as enter public or private establishments to investigate matters pertaining to the prevention and control of the virus.

Before the announcement, the roles of communicable disease control officers were granted only to high ranking officials and staff from the Ministry of Public Health.

The announcement also added that as for outbreak prevention in rural areas, the Ministry of Interior has instructed subdistrict headmen and village headmen to facilitate persons in suspected groups, who were allowed to monitor their conditions at home and provide them with necessary equipment for self-quarantine, as well as educate their communities on steps and advice to prevent contracting the virus.

And incredibly, not a single one of them has any knowledge about communicable diseases.

You badly misquoted my comment to reverse it's meaning. You cut the beginning stating that the Interior Ministry (bureaucrats), NOT Ministry of Public Health,  including politicians from governor down to village head, will be in charge of monitoring COVID-19. These are not health officials, that is the problem.

But OK, it's a good opportunity to say I have great faith in Thailand's medical, hospital, and medical research capabilities in particular genetic research, micro-biology and virology, which the Monarchy has long supported and Thailand stands tall in these areas. They developed their own coronavirus testing and are even working on a vaccine.

Having built 2 houses here, it's construction people I don't trust, like this guy. Reminds me of the contractor who removed all my existing window and door frame aluminium (50kg) cut it into small strips to sneak it out in bags, leaving only broken glass, and sold it. (Hmm, masks?)

Is Trump qualified?

Not a single school in the world where you can get a degree to become a minister/politician. Why do you think it's such a mess everywhere?

On the other hand the view I've heard is that Elizabeth Warren was ultimately unelectable because she sounded too much like what she is - a Harvard Law professor. People trust - rightly or wrongly - those they can relate to. That's the point of both democracy and eg. trial by jury

I haven't been "everywhere", and haven't a clue about how to be a world leader who would make everyone happy, with every decision that needed to be made. There are certainly opportunities for you to apply your skills to make everything right.
