Hi,

Like many others, my ongoing plans are affected by that virus.

I cant do another border run as i already used the 2 for this year.

I know i can make a visa extension but i would rather go to Vientiane, Savannakhet or Penang to make a tourisr visa.

Anyone who successfully made one very recently?

What should i be aware of in case i need?

I have a french passeport.

Thanks

Hey, yep, I have a similar dilemma (UK passport), My current SETV will expire on 2 April. I have decided to hold of booking anything until the last minute as I don't want to buy a ticket/book hotel etc. and the find out that country has now imposed restrictions. The situation is changing every day so this time next week may look worse. For now Vientiane looks like an option. I suggest waiting as long as you can before booking anything... without overstaying, obviously.

Salient point. Anyone with a trip out and in in the near future needs to be wary. Planes are being turned round in Europe and perhaps flying towards Asia too. I cancelled a trip as I feared whether Thailand would block my nationality and be unable to get back. What would I do then, have to fly to UK if I can get a flight?

has anyone had any problems with the land crossings at either Nong Khai-Vientiane or Mudkahan-Savannakhet yet

I’d be checking with immigration before I left to go anywhere with an EU passport

Reading what your friend wrote does not sound right.

It says he was refused entry to the aircraft. How come he has checked in and given a boarding pass which he had to show his passport to be able to do and then go through security and immigration into the departure lounge only to be denied entry to the aircraft after the airline had issued him with a boarding pass. If the airline was not going to accept him on his German passport they would do that at the check-in counter and he would not be issued with a boarding pass and he would not be able to get through security or immigration to get to the aircraft. Something with this story does not sound right

Someone I know got through check-in, security etc in the UK only to be turned around by the flight being cancelled due to new regulations at the destination. It happens.

It is a fast changing situation.

Yes, that is because of flight cancellation but not because a person has a German passport

Just saying the German (likely plus others) restriction may have only recently been flagged to the airline.

he would be escorted back through immigration by airline staff so that his departure stamp would be cancelled and not left to try to explain that he is not an arriving passenger. I worked at an international airport when the SARS virus was around.

The most likely explanation is that the airline received a DNB (Do Not Board) notification through the Advance Passenger Information System from Immigration at the destination after he successfully checked in.

Yes and the airline staff would escort him back through immigration. He would not be left to just find his own way out, because the airline staff would be there to inform immigration of the DNB.

That is certainly the way it is supposed to work. It is possible, I guess, that airline staff escorted him back to Immigration and then left him to it without helping him avoid quarantine.

Well if he went back to immigration then immigration would know he is not an incoming passenger because the incoming and outgoing immigration is on two different levels at the airports, they are not on the same level so he would be taken back to the outbound immigration where he went through before.
