Panic buying leading to shortages at some outlets

I can live without rice and noodles, and I don't think there's much chance of the Thais panic buying potatoes, butter and cheese. I think I'll survive.

Panic buying beer now - don't even think about it!

On Saturday the UK announced 10 more deaths. 8 of those were over 80 years old. A legitimate worry for that age group and even somewhat lower.

Really? I wonder how many people over 80 die in one day in the UK? Nearer 800 than 8.

congratulations on having a reverse osmosis water filter. I wish I had one. i don't own my house. i do have a conventional five step UV water filtration system. i just don't use it for drinking. i do have a gun shot trauma kit with Quikclot. and masks that actually filter viruses. i brought them with me to Thailand six years. i am going to test my satellite cellphone next. i have not turned it on in years and i am not sure if the internal battery is dead. the account is not active. have you taken any cash out of the bank yet?

I'm contemplating spreading money between bank accounts and taking a good amount out in case the accounts get frozen. See how it pans out the next few days

I'm thinking that the city dwellers are panicking.
I don't see it out here in the rural sticks.  Food?  Rice is plentiful with many local growers with stockpiles.  Local seasonal fruits and vegetables are plentiful. Unless Thailand turns off the electricity, the local water distributor will still stop by every week to drop off what we need.  TP? We use a bum gun.  An tissue is for wiping your mouth after dinner.  Processed foods?  Who needs them.

Shortage won't happen if people don't freak out.  And honestly, here is where the government needs to step in and stop the hoarding.  And the most impacted will be city dwellers.

I drink the tap water, no need for a wasteful RO system.

30bht per cubic meter.

I've seen RO systems that plug into an existing faucet, lazada should have them.

At our place I have placed large UV germicidal lights right in the underwater storage tank and they run every day for three hours, the incoming water has already been through filtration. It then gets pumped throughout the house and we use a mazuma 4-stage filter for drinking water. This setup gives us a capacity of about 10,000L of drinking water. I'm more worried about shortage of beer.

Put the beer in the same place so it's always fresh

I am from Hollywood, California.

They got the situation, they got me facin'
I can't live a normal life, I was raised by the stripes
So I gotta be down with the hood team
Too much television watchin' got me chasin' dreams
I'm an educated fool with money on my mind
Got my 10 in my hand and a gleam in my eye
I'm a loc'd out gangsta set trippin' banger
And my homies is down so don't arouse my anger, fool
Death ain't nothin' but a heartbeat away
I'm livin' life, do or die, what can I say
I'm twenty-three now, but will I live to see twenty-four
The way things are going I don't know

I'm not panic buying.

Food for six weeks. In case we are told the remain home. Medicine. Kleenex. You name it. No need to go out unnecessarily now.

The USA is crashing now with NYC becoming like Wuhin soon. Reports school's will not open again this year. Hellish conditions at the airport with people in huge groups together for hours returning from everywhere in the world. No masks. Exactly what you don't want to do.

Myths so far are virus only affects the old and is like the common flu.

In fact people of any age are infected without symptoms and are transmitting the virus to others. Life long lung and liver damage is possible.

Social distancing is now the only way to stop the virus. Stay home. Stay away from tourists who should not be traveling now.

Even if we are all told to stay home indoors, only an idiot would not understand people would be allowed to go out  for an essential reason, ie - going to a supermarket. What's the point of self isolation if we are all going to starve to death. Your well thought out plan of panic buying really helps the situation... Gee thanks

Jesus wept!

The "Rice Guy" just stopped by and we brought our weekly supply.
The "Water Guy" stops by tomorrow to replace the bulk water plus a case of drinking water.
The "Market People" will be out in force at the break of dawn tomorrow selling fruits, veggies, chicken, pork, and local food.

Take Manhattan just give me the country-side!

I was in a Makro early this morning and there were very few people there and the shelves were full! It occured to me that panic buying to a Thai means that there is 2 days supply of food in the house instead of less than 1! After discussing the situation with my Thai family I came home to discover that the panic buying included 1 -5kg bag of rice, 6 packs of potato chips, and assorted ice cream novelties. I was told I think too much! Thais just dont want to plan too far ahead. Now I understand the full shelves at Makro! If I want to panic buy I have to do it myself!

So you have switched to escorts now or is once a week in Soi 6 still acceptable?

Couldn't even get any toilet paper except hugely over priced ones, told the wife to order Online instead. Quite a big list.
Usually that means we would get it tomorrow morning already but now it is that busy, the first delivery option is friday late afternoon.

As everyone starts stocking up now, while that was not needed, it becomes a problem, thus I also start stocking up (as many others) which feeds that problem.

Anyways, buying a bit every day now and assuming the big delivery on friday will come. At that point we will be good for up to 3 months at least.

There again, why would anyone not in the US give a 4x? You think you are important?

yes same here in phetchabun no panic buying at makro yesterday shelves full

We didn't have any yesterday, in Pathumthani. But local Big C had some empty shelves when I went around midday today. Tinned fish, mama noodles and toilette rolls (bizarre as most use a bum gun - but do use them as tissues around the house! To be fair, staff were there filling up shelves as fast as they could. Water and cooking oil were also noticeably piled high in many shopper's trolleys.

Just shows how panic and something like this panic buying can spread via social and traditional media reporting it going on in one country. People start copying the behavior.
