Soft curfew

Featured Replies

It seems that the new Emergency Order comes early in Phuket.

Phuket Governor "asks" tourists to self curfew from 5pm to midnight tonight.  Not sure what links can be posted here but read the news in the two local English newspapers.

I don't understand this announcement. Main questions:

1. Is this a recommendation instead of strict order? Aka no enforcement

2. Why does it target only tourists instead of everyone in Phuket?

3. Why is it OK to go out again after midnight? The hours seem weird.

I assume they mean from 25th onwards and not as written just on the 25th.

It also lacks further clarification and guidance for people.

Imho there's a huge lack of active help from the authorities when it comes to changing peoples' behaviour. A lot of places that should be closed are still open as if nothing happened. People still gathering in groups. Fresh markets still open and full of people.

PS: does anyone know how to source N95 masks?

I would add another question:

4. How do they identify tourists from the rest of the population?

White skin seems the obvious identifier.

But I guess you could add, elephant pants, dreadlocks, bare shoulders (on girls), blonde/red hair, etc.

Thaibashers out in force again- why do they automatically assume 'whitey' is the target?

It is an english translation of a Thai Gov't doc and focuses both on Thais and foreigners, CLEARLY indicated in the last paragraph for people who got down that far. Sorry that every single specific group wasn't named.

As I pointed out elsewhere this was a (so far) one off response to people kicking the backside out of it and congregating on the beach. The fuller decree deals with everyone, including 'locals' so get over it.

Weird. The first announcement was done from 19.00 to 7 am.

As usual, different rules for different provinces?
