Trouble is, some of the posters on ThaiVisa really are angry with China. They really actually want to to see China pay compensation, and they want the West to boycott Chinese goods.

Yep. The world would be better off. If they arent going to play nice, then time for them to leave the sandbox.

China liability would be well established under international law, which they pay no attention to anyway.

china knew of the virus in sept then end of jan knowingly and willingly exported it to the world ,even pressured some countries to keep open borders for tourists ,this was chnese new year, its not unreasonable for effected parties to be angry about this,it wasnt an accident

It's not a one way street, US played silly games that prevented a unified G7 communique which only increases international tensions, rather than a preferred approach of deescalating.

In your second paragraph, to which international law are you referring?

Could you tell me what that means?

Take a look at the IHR regulations.

But regardless, your first paragraph indicates you arent taking a legal view, but rather parroting the China line. Thats fine. Your position is clear.

Sometimes even the stupidest and simplistic slogans are true: China lied, people died.

With that, I await the Sinophiles tu quoque.

Did the US sign up for the International Law you reference. I ask the question as generally the US does not sign up to this type of agreements e.g. ICC. Please stop the hateful personal attacks, totally unnecessary. If you fail to understand, why the US Secretary of State's non compliance with other Western governments wish for a mutually agreed G7 communique,, can't help you. However, as a hint very similar to trump's wasteful dummy spits after other international conferences.

Setting forth that you are parroting  the Chinese line is not a "hateful personal attack", although I do take it as a compliment that that anti US anti Trump crowd is using my little literary point.

I only fail to understand that which is unclear. Want to provide some facts before the conclusion?

And again, not very clear. What spits?

On second thought, never mind.

I am not 'parroting  the Chinese line' it's my opinion. I repeat, stop the personal attacks, which btw are in breach of forum rules.

Asserting China[‘s] liability is one thing, proving it and holding China accountable is quite another matter.

However, the citizens of democratic nations do at least have the means to hold their elected leaders/governments to account.

Pointing fingers at China in a crude attempt to divert attention from domestic leadership failures is only fooling the already fooled.

Hard to keep up with the talking points du-jour re: China and Covid-19, but it looks like the bromance is back on, again with Xi?

Trump says the US and China are ‘working closely together’ in fight against coronavirus

In the call with Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that U.S.-China relations are at a critical juncture, and hoped the U.S. would make substantial action in improving the relationship, according to a Chinese-language state media report translated by CNBC.

“Under the current circumstances, China and the U.S. should unite to fight the epidemic,” the report of Xi’s comments said, noting both countries’ health departments and disease control experts have maintained communication.

“China has been through much & has developed a strong understanding of the Virus,” Trump said on Twitter. “We are working closely together. Much respect!

Came across this article - very good summary of the reality - China should pay.

And if they wont pay - seize all Chinese assets in the country - sell those to make the payment wanted.

There is no Chinese money spent by any Chinese person/company buying assets overseas, that is not approved/directed by the Chinese Govt.

The regime wasted crucial time when the spread of the virus could have been shut down at source.

Who writes all this garbage? If you confiscate all Chinese assets, they will confiscate all foreign factories. Nobody wins here.

Are you serious? There are nil foreign factories in China - they are all owned by China. You cannot buy any property in China as there is no private ownership of land in China. One can only obtain rights to use land.  They are not stupid - we are, to allow them to buy our property - land included.  Get educated about something before you start criticisng what you dont have a clue about.

That's why nowadays the democracy doesn't work. The morons with no formal or little formal education should be stripped from voting rights. They would vote for anyone who will promise them something for nothing. And they are led to believe if they are going to war they would win it.

Not holding high hopes about the world as is now.

It's always same same never different. Fly the flag , beat the drum and march to war with economic collapse preceding that. Hopefully wise heads and calm hearts will prevail.

Quote:  Since the coronavirus storm broke in late January, the head of the World Health Organisation, Dr Tedros Adanhom Ghebreyesus of Ethiopia, has been firmly in Xi’s corner. Having been backed by China for his job (and immediately on his election pledging himself to the communists’ ‘One China’ policy, even though his job is supposed to be apolitical) Tedros consistently praises its communist regime’s coronavirus response.

I think you should bear in mind that Thailand is fully "in" with China, Thailand is far more aligned with China than it is with the West.

No doubt about it, an economic war between China and the West will mean that Thailand jumps in with China. There's people on ThaiVisa who claim that Thailand is already a satellite state of China, or a vassel state. Or a province of China. And when Thailand does seize all assets (momey in bank accounts, partly owned real estate and all property) owned by those who are citizens of nations backing the USA, well, a lot of foreigners will not be happy.

I've noticed a few absurd comments about how the WHO is working with the Chinese government on the crazy idea of covering up this virus. It's absurd. First of all, people make the accusation that the Chinese government is covering this up, it is telling lies. The WHO have praised China for it's handling of the virus. And so, this means that the China haters are now in the ridiculous position of claiming that the WHO have been bribed by the Chinese government.

Right now, in the USA, Trump is refusing to take strong action by doing a quarantine on New York. Trump is not doing a quarantine because he knows it will destroy any popularity he has in New York. But the quarantine should be done, it will save lives and hold the virus back. If the virus had of started in America, Trump would not have carried out a massive lockdown early on. The virus started in China, Xi Jinping did actually order a massive lockdown. That's why the WHO have praised China for it's efforts to restrict the virus.

apple will still go on using them for cheap labor and big profits like many other makers of things in the USA

Coronavirus: pathogen could have been spreading in humans for decades, study says

Quote

Researchers from the United States, Britain and Australia looked at piles of data released by scientists around the world for clues about the virus’ evolutionary past, and found it might have made the jump from animal to humans long before the first detection in the central China city of Wuhan.

At least can stop all the bat soup jokes already. The coronavirus found from bats that matches around 96% of SARS-CoV-2 couldn't infect humans.

The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2

This sounds more like the undetected HIV infections for who knows how long before it was first discovered in the US. I wouldn't be surprised that many seasonal flu pneumonia cases in the past may have been wrongly diagnosed but might have instead been caused by this virus instead.
