Siritida Panomwon na Ayudhya

Concerned that online payment systems suffered temporary breakdowns in the past few days, the Bank of Thailand (BOT) is monitoring the situation closely in order to solve problems as soon as possible, said Siritida Panomwon na Ayudhya, the BOT assistant governor of payment systems policy and financial technology.

“During the Covid-19 virus outbreak, online transactions have increased,” she said.

On Wednesday, Bangkok Bank online payment system and ATMs went offline temporarily. On Saturday, users reported problems with a government website providing financial support for informal workers during the outbreak.

The BOT has asked banks and other financial institutions to monitor any glitches in their online transaction systems and solve them quickly. The institutions have been urged to ensure that customers’ problems are solved within 24 hours.

You would think that BOT with their vast reserves of money would have had a better computer system but this is Thailand

The standard is Windows XP, as you will see on any crashed ATM.

The computer systems are fine....the issues are the technical people, the software and IT management.....all of which are substandard for this era.

I had a hard time using SCBeasy (online and mobile) yesterday. Entering the "Transfer" menu it would hang (repeating progress bar).

On the third try, using the web app on a PC, I was able to complete the transfer.

Prior to yesterday, but in the last ~ 5 days, I was able to pay all normal bills using both iBanking (BBL) and SCBeasy without issue.

Major banks still not using genuine software, as evidenced here, from photos taken three weeks ago in Pattaya.

What a better computer system to handle the problems that come with a global pandemic?

Were you prepared for it?

I would urge everyone to check their bank balances. Last Wednesday 25th March  when I used the ATM of a well known bank it said it was unable to communicate. Eventually after trying about 4 times throughout the day  at different ATMs I went into the bank only to find that when my bank book was updated 5000thb had been deducted from my balance on one of my attempts of getting money from an ATM. Its taken a week but they have reimbursed me. The point being if I had not gone into the bank and made the bank book up I wouldnt have noticed.

We had the same experience here in Surin. Reimbursement requested at counter an hour later, repaid several days later.

You should see the computer systems in use by the US government. The several states are even worse. Hillary had good reasons for setting up her own server. A spokesperson for the state of California announced recently that it may take them as much as a year to change their system to increase the unemployment insurance payments because their system is so bad.

I think I may have a bootleg copy of Win 95 somewhere in my junk pile of old computer bits.

I took some money from my KBank via the ATM and there was no problem.

One of the advantages of internet banking: >I< would have noticed quickly.
