Two THAI flights from London found to be Covid-19 hotspots

Nonthaburi Provincial Public Health Office has issued a warning that passengers on two flights from London face the risk of being infected by Covid-19.

 

The Nonthaburi Provincial Public Health Office has announced that passengers of two Thai Airways (THAI) flights from London to Bangkok may be at risk because three people who took these flights were found to be infected with Covid-19. 

 

The three passengers had developed symptoms en route and later tested positive for the virus. 

 

In an announcement on Facebook page of Nonthaburi Provincial Public Health Office, the public health office said passengers who took TG917 flights from Heathrow to Suvarnabhumi on March 27 and 28 should either quarantine themselves or have themselves tested for novel coronavirus. 

 

A passenger on seat number 49D of TG917, which left Heathrow Airport at 9.25pm on March 27 and landed in Suvarnabhumi on March 28 at 3.51pm, was found to be infected. 

 

Two passengers on TG917, which left Heathrow Airport on March 28 at 9.25pm and arrived in Bangkok the following afternoon, were also found to be infected. 

 

The public health office said people who were on either of the two flights must isolate themselves at home, wear face masks and observe their symptoms for 14 days. Those who feel ill are required to go to the closest hospital and tell the doctors about their travel history.

I'm beginning to see a pattern here....

 

Where they find 1, there's surely 10 more who they don't find.

No mentioning that the three are foreigners from UK.

So they were Thai who brought the virus with them?

Sorry, but isn't it also just as likely that they were infected by getting into a seat from some flying out of Thailand few hours earlier at Heathrow  ? Are they tracing all the people that flew out on the potentially infected plane ? No, thought not.

of course. it would be mad for british nationals to have their annual beano at the moment? everyones trying to get home. unless it's hardcore expats? 

Did they say this when it was all happening from China in Jan.. 

I recall they had open arms to the Chinese.

I would say Thailand knew. Thailands first declared case was only days after china's. yet open arms was the order of the day/month/….

Interesting that they didn't find any of the half a million Chinese people that flew out of Wuhan to be positive back when it really mattered ???? I think I can see where this narrative is going

Surely immigration knows where these passengers went to from their arivals cards,. Why do they not contact trace them and test them, with repeat testing done to confirm any negative results, along with self quarantine.

Airliners are always a pool of germs. Given limited time, the staff has no chance of disinfecting the plane.

I have been that annoying passenger for many years. On boarding any aircraft, before seating I wipe down the headrest, arm rests, tray table and back of seat infront of me if in economy.

Holds others up, momentarily, but my safety has always been paramount. Always concerned about nits from headrests, and once found a really dirty wet tray table.(on TG)

In the Marketplace episode, they even found a sealed blanket contaminated with all sorts of nasties.

      Of course Thais , who caught the virus in England . Flights bringing Aussies back to  Sydney from London for the last 10 days have had at least one person on every flight , that has been reported positive for the v

irus . This means London is definitely one of the least safe places to be at the moment . Flights from the U S  have also had many CV positive Aussies . A lot from Dubai , Doha too . Not one reported from a flight from BKK during that period .

Trouble is that the very same planes are being continuouslt reused to these Repat' and Return round trips. The same ones.

 

Take a step back...

Each and every airline around the planet, are mothballing all but the very few that we are seeing, doing those flights.

 

High pressure on cleaning staff to try to 'safely' prepare the aircraft during the turnaround time of unloading/reloading...

Why aren't the airlines smart enough, to cycle through all the individual aircraft in their fleets? - that are now idle?

Keeping them in a time sharing arrangement will keep the entire fleets Maintenance-fresh 

 

It will assist in the financial recovery, for when 'normal' flight resume; as the costs will be lower to Maintain air worthiness, then it will otherwise cost to Restore airworthiness...

 

Having the 'longer' rest between the merry go round of musical chairsnof aircraft; would enable a more thorough cleaning of the aircraft too

 

 

... unless the airlines have a mid term plan to actually 'dump' those aircraft doing the current 'mercy' flights?? - after this is over

Same here re the dirty tray. Flying back to LoS via Karachi from Muscat on TG. Someone had been sick on the food tray which hadn't been cleaned, absolutely disgusting. I called for the CSD and let her know my feelings in no uncertain terms. In fairness she moved me to a crew seat due to the flight being full.

Indeed, since you get one of the worst kind of Farangs on top of the Wuhan flu. Thai scientists have decided to call it Wuhan Gin Pom flu.

Why do they only list the 1 seat with the infected person?  They don't know the other seats the infected people were in?
 

People asking about cleaning and turn-around time.  These long haul flights have at least a 24 hr turn around time thus easily cleaned.

Almost certainly, as both flights arrived after foreigners were banned from entry, so unless they held work permits or were diplomats, then they were Thai, not that it makes any difference.

The chances of them being infected by the seats or any other part of the plane are extremely slim, considering the article said that :

It would be unheard of that a person developed symptoms within a few hours of being exposed to the virus.

              The airlines are doing whatever makes them the most money ( trying to lessen the losses really ). I expected my son's flight from BKK to Syd 11 days ago to be half empty , but it was nearly full . On further investigation , I found that Qantas had passengers from 3 other airlines on the flt . Probably those other airlines cancelled their flts . While waiting for my son to come out from customs , I spoke to to people who'd arrived from Bali and London --- same thing .Also examples of inflated prices for tickets .

my angle was that a plane is built to fly...

if it is left non flying, it slowly dies.

 

Hence the even higher costs in eventually 'restoring' it back to full flight status. Many deeper levels of maintenance require the serviced aircraft to fly, as part of it's post-maint checks... 

 

these aircraft, flying one or not, still get basic Servicings, so there will always be Costs anyway.

I wonder if one of these cases is a Brits Thai wife who flew back from the UK then took a 10 hour bus journey home to my town before testing positive.

 

The other positive cases in my town are Thai husband and wife who worked in a Bangkok entertainment establishment before heading home. not sure if they flew or arrived by bus.

Thai passport holders do not require arrival cards..........

This virus can be transmitted by the infected inside a 12 hour period?
