Pattaya: We're shut! Jomtien tourists told to stay off the beach

77kaoded reported that Pattaya's deputy mayor Patana Bunsawat went with his subordinates to erect signage forbidding use of public areas at Jomtien beach.

The media reported that many foreigners, many tourists had been congregating at the beach brazenly sunbathing, eating and drinking beer as if there was no Covid-19 crisis.

As if they didn't know the rules.

People enjoying themselves in the afternoon sun were told to leave the area.

Tables outside a 7-Eleven were packed up and put away - tourists had been gathering there to drink alcohol.

  • People will always find a way to continue to live their lives. Not everyone in the world is scared of their own shadow over Covid 19. They are probably as safe as anyone else.

  • Thanks to Mr Rimmer & Rooster for posting up-to-the-minute stuff whilst the rest of Thaivisa reports are two days stale.

Isn't that why they came here on holiday?

The Chinese will not return if the 7/11s are closed to crowds for lunch...

That is unusual. Here on Samui it is usually Thais that are seen drinking on the steps outside of the 7/11's and Familymarts.

Many Thais also, not just foreigners.

I rarely if ever have seen Thais at Jomtien beach.

But if they did come from Bangkok or another area, they are in fact considered "tourists".

I blame 7/11 there, for putting tables and chairs outside thats like inviting them to sit and drink

what again

Hasn't worked yet

Personally I see no harm letting people on the beach as long as they maintain distance rules

I would say more Thais than foreigners but of course they fail to mention that, again more racist reporting

There are news websites. No need to check news at a thai visa forum.

The Pattaya News and Pattaya One News for example.

That's not a 7/11. It's a Family Mart in the corner of Jomtien Beach Rd and So1 11. You do know that Family Mart sells food and drinks, too? Why shouldn't people be allowed to sit down and eat and drink? Stop whining, please!

Of course they'll return, it's all in their plan for total world domination!

The bits i have seen the water was like a brown soup, who would want to swim in that.

I agree, and in the case of a resident living in a 50 m2 condo, with a view of a wall, it is really mean to take away these facilities. But the locals would be encircling food and whisky there if the beach was open.

The beach is very quiet these days and it's not difficult to maintain 20m social distance, never mind 2m. I'd say it's a lot safer for everybody than spending time in a supermarket. I was in Friendship this morning and it was busy there was hardly room to move, never mind keep six feet away. They've also still got large quantities of unwrapped bread on sale. Who'd risk eating that at the moment?

The old white guys will sit on the steps or the curb.

I also see no harm in people using the Beach, as long as " Social Distancing Rules " are applied sensibly.

Also I see no reason why people cannot use the Parks and Cycle Tracks. But these are also closed.

It certainly makes more sense for people to use these facilities than to pack into Supermarkets, but  I guess they dont spend as much money on the Beach, or at the Park

Yeah you just wait until.......

Oh, we've played that until its breathed its last already.

It doesn't matter when or where there is always people who think the rules do not apply to them. Just read a story from the Gunnison Colorado area. The health department has closed the area to only people who are residence. The attorney general of Texas has a summer home in the area and of course he complained and said it was unconstitutional. The letter back stated this is not the time to be thinking about vactions and if you need a vacation have it closer to your main residence. This area of Colorado which has a lot of high end ski resorts was hit very hard by the initial virus. Vale Colorado is just one of the areas hard hit by the virus

I think it's ridiculous to expect people to stay inside for a month.  It's important to be able to get out and get some air and exercise.  My partner and I have been taking walks on Wong Amat beach.  Everyone is maintaining plenty of social distance and most are wearing masks.  I certainly feel much safer on the beach taking a walk than I do going for groceries in an enclosed space.  Why not keep the beaches open and have some tourist police on duty maintaining social distancing rules if need be?  Give them something to do.

gotta be careful of that nasty sand!

Chinese would have poopooed and spat on it

Mark me down as another who sees no problem with the beaches being open. Stiff penalties should be applied for groups not abiding by the physical distancing rules. I don't think the concessions should be open yet but parks and beaches worldwide should be open. If we are confined, I fear a greater problem with mental issues.

I swear I can smell the stale beer and cigarettes coming from that photo.
