The number of new COVID-19 cases in Thailand have fallen for a fourth consecutive day.

On Sunday, health officials announced 33 new cases, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 2,551.

Three new deaths were reported, bringing the total number of fatalities to 38.

Meanwhile, a further 83 people have been discharged having made a full recovery, bringing the total number of people discharged to 1,218.

Over the past four previous days, Thailand reported 54 new cases on Thursday, 50 on Friday, 45 on Saturday and 33 today (Sunday).

Spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin described the continued fall in the number of new cases as “very good news” but said the global situation is still a concern.  Dr. Taweesin urged people in Thailand to not let their guard down in their response to COVID-19.

  • The real pattern is that Thailand announces new figures and then sozzled old bedroom expert expats say they are wrong without any evidence.

  • People can be skeptical. But, the fact is the hospitals are not full of patients and they are not burning bodies all day.  If they are hiding things, they must be pretty  genious.

Wow, great numbers.

Very thankful I stayed in Thailand.

Amazing numbers.. Maybe we can all go back to work. 33 sick people and the country grinds to a halt. The medicine seems more dangerous than the disease based in these numbers. However we must consider the 32'000 people under investigation. Those who have symptoms but have not been tested (one assumes) . Hmmm??

Does anyone know if PUI are tested for Covid??

I put about as much faith in those numbers as I do in China saying Covid started in the USA.

Zilch!

If these numbers and the trend remains downward, are correct that is indeed great news. However, IMO, the greater threat will be as stated by the doctor above, will be when the travel restrictions are lifted.

Although probably months ahead, the transition between the self isolation/curfew/travel restricted situation that we are currently in and back to normal, needs to be done correctly. This will take a lot of time.

fall in the quantity of tests being done =(equal)  to less virus detected, simple logic as 1 + 1 = 2

Yes, Khun Prayut acted quickly to minimize the spread of the virus and the numbers are starting to prove that theory.

Are other countries looking at Thailand's figures and wondering how the figures are so low?

If you think about it, Thailand should be an absolute hotbed for the dissemination of the virus:

Flights from Wuhan continuing until Wuhan itself closed its airport;

Flights from overseas, including China, still arriving until very recently;

A population that is generally loathe to observe rules and regulations;

Minimal social distancing;

People living several to a household, not to forget the corrugated iron villages occupied by migrant workers;

Public hospitals where you expect to come out with a disease, even if you enter in perfect health;

An early lack of decisiveness from the Government and totally confusing messages from  the health ministry (and a useless health minister who has all but disappeared from sight);

Completely different provincial approaches whereby some still have shopping malls open and others are in full lockdown.

I could probably go on.

So why is this virus just not infecting many people here? Heat and humidity? Face masks? Natural immunity? Lack of testing and analysis of tests?

Other southeast Asian countries are also not suffering like in Europe and America.

It just seems odd.

stop talking nonsense, maybe you would be happier in the Philippines or Lao or Cambodia. Don't stay here moaning and bitching all your life. Life's to short.

That's great news so they can lift State Of Emergency soon but should do mass testing to find Asymptomatic Carriers.

The evidence is there worldwide. Only when testing is done on a massive scale do you get close to accurate figures. In Thailand there has been an extremely low level of testing, so the official figures are meaningless.

I am very impressed by Thailand's handling of this, but I hope the people can get back to work soon.

Can you spell sycophant?

They have done nothing to handle this well

Let Chinese flights come in for weeks afterwards

Closed down BKK and Pattaya and moved all the workers back to their home villages in rammed buses in a 48 hr period

Caused various other bottlenecks etc etc

But the hospital death rate is very low. I think this number is most likely true, and indicates its under control here

Got to be heat and humidity, as well as lack of testing. This is clear from the absence of runaway numbers in any Southeast Asian country. Natural immunity is less likely, otherwise there'd be an imbalance in Thai vs foreign deaths.

Just think how smaller the numbers would have been, had they not had that boxing tournament!

Someone needs to swing for that, although not expecting much. ????

Great news nonetheless, if the figures are a true indication of what's happening. ????
