Pattaya: Thai media reports that no one is having a splashing Songkran

77kaoded went to Pattaya to find out if the locals and tourists there were following the rules about coronavirus and Songkran.

They were.

The media went on a sweep of Beach Road, Soi 6 and Walking Street and found it dead.

Normally the area would be heaving with people drinking and engaging in water fights from the 12th through the 19th of April.

This year the city is in semi-lockdown and nearly all forms of Songkran have been banned along with alcohol.

People are staying home.

Even the temples were quiet.

Reporters went to Wat Chaimongkhon where things were as quiet as the red light districts.

Dead is accurate, the streets are empty for traffic and people. Like Christmas or Eastern holiday back home.

Across from where I live, are many regular apartments for rent. Local people are moving out almost every day, and going home.

Same with stores all over Pattaya, owners packing up and cancel their lease.

One can almost hear a pin drop.

Unbelievable.

One can go out for walk, exercise, buy food, but that's it.

Almost all other shops than 7Eleven,  Pharmacy and supermarket are closed.

Even lady boys and coconuts has left Pattaya beach road almost deserted.

That's a good indication.

The message is clear - stay home (same most countries worldwide)

We are 'lucky' compared with pinoys and foreigners in Philippines, who are on a total 24 hrs lockdown and need 'quarantine Pass' issued by barangay office, before they're allowed to go buy food. Only 1 pass issued per household!

Who's complaining now?
