China concealed the early coronavirus outbreak, former MI6 spymaster says

LONDON (Reuters) - China concealed crucial information about the novel coronavirus outbreak from the rest of the world and so should answer for its deceit, the former head of Britain’s MI6 foreign intelligence service said on Wednesday.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he would halt funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) which he said had promoted China’s “disinformation” about the virus.

John Sawers, the chief of Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service, or MI6, from 2009 to 2014, said it would be better to hold China responsible rather than the WHO.

“There is deep anger in America at what they see as having been inflicted on us all by China and China is evading a good deal of responsibility for the origin of the virus, for failing to deal with it initially,” Sawers told the BBC.

“Intelligence is about acquiring information which has been concealed from you by other states and other actors, there was a brief period in December and January when the Chinese were indeed concealing this from the West.”

I'd say boycotts, return of manufacturing to home countries, and expropriation of Chinese assets are all on the table. IMO the CCP has badly miscalculated the depth of anger felt towards China.

Don't have to prove it back to China so they admit it as everyone knows. Just all countries need to see the findings and then sanction and isolate them like North Korea.

The real fact is China needs the world more than the world needs them. Time to kick their butts.

Obviously China’s figures are way too small, just Add a zero to their total figures. That would be approximately the correct figures.

You think China cares????????.. They seem to be a shameless people that demand to dominate the world. Its blatantly obvious and has been for ever i guess. This should be a wake up call and everyone should strive to sever ties with china with anyone trying to do buisness with them to be tried for treason... reality is though we will all be speaking chinese and working the rail roads and shining shoes in a couple decades i reckon????

Go figure! The CCP are duplicitous human rights abusers and unscrupulous profiteers bent on world domination and preservation of the Party. Who knew?! For those calling for sanctions and boycotts, it is best Western nations withdraw their factories first. Esp. pharma. Bring the jobs home. Especially those that are critical to national security and health of citizens. As long as the CCP has an arsenal of biological agents and control of(according to some reports) up to 80% of pharma manufacturing for some nations, the rest of the world is caught by the short and curlies.

Maybe not so too much larger if they already have the vaccine prior to letting the virus get out. But then probably as a couple of billion people needs to be contained area by area.

I'd agree. But in the short-term where would our citizens get their medicines (many life-saving) until local production can meet local demand? Bring the manufacturing home first. A big blow to the Chinese economy. Then hit them with sanctions once we can reliably support our own citizens.

who in bed with China and Bill Gates ?

anyone read that Obama gave a grant of 3.7 million Usd to Wuhan research biolab for CORONO virus when in office?

And, apparently concealing this from the Chinese people at large as they were preparing to commence their lunar new year travels in-country and out; rendering them completely unaware of the potential perils that lie ahead.

History cannot be kind to those withholding such pertinent information from their own kin, not to mention the global population as a whole.

The one who has the most power is the consumer . If people worldwide boycotted everything Chinese the country would shrink into insignificance  ..if people of world did this the governments  would  follow .. but because of greed and the cheapness of their products this will never happen ...people today are  selfish and short minded

The West was asleep for this pandemic.  They knew enough when they saw Wuhan building new temporary hospitals. Following advice from the 1/2 inept WHO (keep the borders open, don't wear masks, etc).  CDC can't make a workable test kit in time.  Goes on and on.

Thanks for reminding Trumpers that the current instructions are to blame the WHO! ????
