I can understand paying healthcare providers extra but Police and Military?

It looks like buying support to me. Just in case. The police and military who get a bonus may have family members in straitened circumstances.

In most countries cash gifts to public servants are considered bribes and expressly banned.

This article, if true, makes me want to PUKE!!!  All these civil servants HAVE JOBS... = HAVE MONEY COMING IN and doing what they are paid to do, = serve the people.  Yet here we have the Govt. squabbling about poor low income Thai's wanting a meagre handout to survive and put food in their (+family's) mouths along with some clean drinking water.

SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE AND IT STINKS!!

govt approved graft, bonuses for govt workers that are simply doing what they are already  paid for, nothing new really

On the side of this many mid / senior level bureaucrats regardless of ministry get an annual bonus, been like this for many years.

There's also been previous discussions about ensuring vast numbers of civil servants get an overseas trip every xx years.

Nice work if you can get it.

No one "gets it" here in Thailand if you haven't got a family member to smooth the way.....or alternatively a family with deep pockets to buy a smoothing machine.   ????

Sure make it OK for the rich to give large / very large gifts to doctors and medical staff to ensure their family members get all the resources, and the poor don't get a fair share of the resources. Gross.
