How early/late can the WP be extended? If it is a few days late, can it still be done, or does the whole process start from scratch?

Thank you for advice to all.

In normal times there is no flexibility. Example, my uni admin lady waited too long (her usual attitude to anything to do with foreign professors) to send the documents to the vice dean for signature, end result I went to Din Daeng early morning the day after the final day.

As soon as the officer noticed the dates (1 day late) he called his supervisor who asked me (good English) some relevant questions then asked for the name and number of the admin person at my uni. He called her and gave her a lengthy lecture about planning to get the documents together and never late, not even 1 day.

He focused on the possible negative and complex result on the visa, often meaning the lecturer must leave the country immediately and the possibility of overstay penalties.  He asked the admin. lady if she was aware of these complications, she said 'not my problem', WP supervisor officer got very angry and asked to come to Din Daeng same day and bring all the relevant documents for a completely new WP application. There was further action take on this lady at my uni, she was moved to a junior position in another dept.

I was lucky that I have PR so there was no effect for me re visa.

What attitude they are taking during the current circumstances  I don't know.

Yes, that was my (very nearly) experience. I just happened to notice that my WP expired that day!

HR called the labour department, zero flexibility, so a frantic day running around getting paperwork and a medical ensued. HR made it to the labour office just in time.

I seem to recall a thread saying that things could be delayed but I can't find it (forum search really sucks), so I would call your local labour department.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

My understanding is that even a day late is too late. Once on the last possible day I managed to get my work permit to the Labour department just before they closed and they were nice enough to hold onto it and allow me to come collect it (updated) again the next day.
