PM's brother and tourism committee come under fire

n3.jpg

Thai netizens are roasting General Preecha Chan-o-cha, the younger brother of Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, after it became known through the Royal Gazette that he had been appointed a member of the Senate committee on tourism on Thursday.

Other members on the list are mostly military officers, with only five of 19 being civilians. The opposition party and several netizens have questioned the credentials of the military men to contribute to tourism, especially as the committee was expected to help the tourism industry during the coronavirus pandemic.

The committee has the authority to evaluate bills, conduct activities, examine the facts or study any matters relating to tourism promotion and development.

On the Thai Tourism Facebook Page, netizens posted sarcastic remarks, expressing their concerns over the appointment. Some of the remarks were:

“Are they going to war or something?”

“How do military offers have any knowledge of tourism?”

“Preecha is the right choice. He was on vacation for 364 days instead of attending office. Who would know better about tourism?”

The spokesman of the main opposition Pheu Thai Party, Anusorn Iamsa-ard, criticised the selection and said that if this Senate panel had been selected by other governments, it would have been called out for nepotism.

While serving as a member of the junta-appointed National Legislative Assembly (NLA), Preecha had not attended sessions for 364 days out of 400, he said.

In defense of the panel, the committee's deputy secretary General Boontham Oris, said that all members were experienced and qualified.

There was strict scrutiny before it was proposed to the government and every procedure was in line with Article 270 of the Constitution to reform the country but due to the pandemic, the working system had to be reshaped too.

Preecha said that he was not appointed because of his brother, and he had on his own made the decision to join the committee.

There won't be any tourism for at least 400 days so he's probably the right man for the job...

If we can ever count on anything from Prayuth, it is that he will always pick from the bottom of the barrel, and rarely will anyone be appointed based on merit, or talent. This is part of the reason the army is despised by the Thai people, and the expat community, to the extent they are.

The mother of these two guys is very satisfied: two guys in the top rank army and now on the top of the government. Compliments. Big money in the future of Chan-o-cha family, while the Thai people are being mocked.

Let's be honest; if people were appointed on Merit or Talent there wouldn't be any appointments as the majority are as dumb as bricks !

Anyone who has ever stood in line at 711 knows the answer to why they are so fat.

"In defense of the panel, the committee's deputy secretary General Boontham Oris, said that all members were experienced and qualified."

Yes but the trouble is 'corruption' and '<deleted> licking' is not the experience and qualifications needed!!!! ????????????????????????????????

Looks like somebody is thinking I wish I still had that section 44.

I hear you Colin, but who, apart from a few farang, and a handful of young Thais on social media, actually give a <deleted> about Thailand?

A committee on tourism when there isn't any. Nuff said.

It's bad language to write this ...:cheesy:
The soldiers are generally called far from their borders;
look at France, what is it doing in the Sahel in Africa? if not defend the borders of the country,?

Yes, it's true, our borders are very far ...:giggle:
And the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier which is going to sail in the Pacific Ocean and returns with a third of its crew contaminated by the Covid.
And yes, you should not go down to the fiesta in Pattaya ....
I know, Pattaya is not at the edge of the Pacific ocean but they made a small detour for the "rest of the warrior"

And the smug look on their faces says: "We don't give a rodent's rectum what Thailand or ThaIs think or want."

% Civilians may be , the rest of the GENERALS certainly are NOT . General, but then does the Government really take any notice of the Public whom they think of as Cannon Fodder.
