Is there a certain type of Bamboo that is grown for food. If so how is it grown? The Bamboo we have seems too woody.

I have purchased several varieties from them and have been very pleased with their knowledge of bamboo and their services. If your looking for a good eating bamboo, I highly recommend the Bambusa Burmanica as it is very tender and a bit sweet eaten raw.
