Still trying to figure out how they managed to get here 14 days ago. Were not all flights stopped unless you met certain restrictions, like being a diplomat, pilot, a Thai national or had a work permi

  • Want to stay in quarantine means don't have money.  And like free room and board.

I've been employed as a teacher for the past 35 years in international schools in Japan, Singapore and Thailand, and I can assure you that I have never surfed Facebook or any other social media site while working.  To my knowledge, neither have any of my colleagues. Your rude, thoughtless and hurtful opinions are not appreciated, and I suggest that if you have nothing good to say, say NOTHING.

guess what....

I've SEEN TEACHERS DO IT IN THE CLASSROOM..

so please open up your mind to the possibility and quit telling me what I know and don't know

understand that others might be right

and don't be negative....good teachers are positive

Two American tourists have asked that they are allowed to stay in Thailand as they are afraid of the Covid-19 situation in the United States

That´s priceless! Have actually been waiting for a comment like that.

Korean Air, Qatar Air are just two of a few:  Ethiopian Airlines, Japan AirlinesAir Asiana, , and Lufthansa are the others, however Japan Airlines has reduced flights further from what I have seen

EVA to London 3 times a week until May 4 and appears once a week after that.

Or Europe?

I go back to the UK twice a year, but as one of the "Vulnerables" I'm starting to think it may be wiser to stay in Thailand until there's a vaccine available.

How can anybody have Corona?  The beer company that makes it has stopped production for the duration of this virus.

'nuf sed.

I have

I don't blame them wanting to stay there. I'm in the U.K and things here are not too chipper at the moment either. If I had the option I would be on a plane straight to Thailand. Weather the Thailand statistcs are accurate or not (I'll let you decide) I believe its a lot safer there. I would be happy with a 2 week quarantine (as long as I could stay 3 months +).

If they can "apparently" bring the numbers of infection down more then maybe (just maybe) there will be an insurgance of foreigners to add a boost to the economy.

Such a BS story....irresponsible journalism...

almost a find a bag of money in the back of a taxi PR stunt to deflect a negative environment....

and how do other people feel being locked up in quarantine?....lets go with the extreme outlier version

Wrong and wrong. They can leave any time they like. All they have to do is book tickets on one of the many airlines still flying out of Thailand. The American and Canadian Embassy's have a list of airlines/flights that people can use to get back to North America.
Lufthansa, KLM, Qatar, ANA, Korean Airlines and EVA are all still flying out of Bangkok and each has connections to either Europe and/or North America.

I noticed the Nation story was a whopping 5 sentences long, including the headline. Same as the what is in the OP.
Not credited to any reporter. No background on how those 2 allegedly arrived in Thailand 2 weeks earlier when the ban on arrivals started over 3 weeks ago. No details on why they travelled to Thailand in the first place when flights were being cancelled around the world and countries were closing their borders.

Sounds a little hokey. Like the Brit guy in Phuket who claims he would rather stay in Thailand than return to the UK. After he tried at least 3 times to fly home but supposedly couldn't because he claims all the flights he booked were cancelled (despite all the flights that were, and are, still available to leave the country on).
His claim that he'd rather stay in Thailand also coincidentally came right after the gov't amnesty on Tourist Visas.

Yes, I agree with them. I am a US citizen and I feel much safer here than I would in the US.

The US is a big country. We returned in February and the coronavirus numbers in our neck of the woods are very small. It ain’t all New York City, however, if it suits your narrative, go for it.

I am both and will remain here until the situation gets better.

Medical care is better and cheaper here and even with the curfew there is more freedom.  Not to mention the shutdown over there now has food supplies running short.

Food supplies running short? Where do you get your info? We are back in the US and my main problem is that grocery stores are full of stuff compared to the limited foreign food choices in Thailand.

Yes, I am told that there are still a few places at the IDC, they are more than welcome!

I just spoke to my father, and he indicated that there is now a glut of food at stores and the prices have been reduced by as much as 30% where he is living in Northern California.  His city has also only had 5 Covid-19 infections and they have all been released from the hospital.  Yet the whole of California is still shutdown.

I now live back in the UK, the supermarkets here seem as well supplied as usual, there are a few empty shelves, but not that many.

Both appear to be African ethnicity.

Covid-19 appears to kill people of African (aka 'black") people in the US at twice the rate for Caucasions. So there is some clinical basis for their fear.
