Two Americans afraid to go back home, want to remain in Thailand

Two American tourists have asked that they are allowed to stay in Thailand as they are afraid of the Covid-19 situation in the United States, which has become more serious.

They have been quarantined at the Kanchanaphishek Institute of Medical and Public Health Technology in Bangkok for 14 days after arriving in Thailand.

However, they said they wished to remain under Thai quarantine until the crisis in the country eases.

They expressed gratitude toward Thai medical personnel who, they said, took care of them very well.

  • Want to stay in quarantine means don't have money.  And like free room and board.

Were not all flights stopped unless you met certain restrictions, like being a diplomat, pilot, a Thai national or had a work permit.  If so how did these two get into the country and into quarantine, unless they are also American born Thais who have Thai nationality...But with those dreadlocks I doubt they are Thai.....

I'm curious.....If i have to go go CM (I'm in Thailand) and they say I have to quarantine for 2 weeks... OK, whatever.

Do I have to say in some quarantine hotel?  If not, how do I get food and water and coffee, etc?

if i go into quarantine, it's free?

i know a lot of new teachers are going to go into quarantine before school starts and i was curious how it works.  no, i'm not going to CM now.  curious

School starts? I was just told by one of the staff at my daughters government school not to expect to restart until July and then they will possibly go 7 days a week for a month before getting a day off.  Going to <deleted> off some teachers I am sure.

some are starting in June.  Quarantine is then two weeks prior.

most start in July, so then I'm GUESSING quarantine around June 15th

7 days a week.....hahahhahahhahhaha......well, all that means is teachers will be even lazier and play youtube while surfing facebook and wondering why they can't speak English.

Eh... have they just got into thailand?

how is that possible?

How did they managed to arrive in Thailand in the first place for a 14 day quarantine?

I thought only Thais (and not foreigners) are allowed to enter Thailand this month?

Not true - there are still commercial flights flying out of Thailand with paid pax and connections to USA.  They fly cargo into country so are not empty.

True, as I just looked at the US Embassy info.  They could contact them if they were serious, but it sounds like they have no money, and where did they come from in the first place is the real question...

Was just about to say the same.  Americans could return to the USA flying west through Qatar or east through Korea easily.  There are certainly more options, but these two were quick to check.

I've been employed as a teacher for the past 35 years in international schools in Japan, Singapore and Thailand, and I can assure you that I have never surfed Facebook or any other social media site while working.  To my knowledge, neither have any of my colleagues. Your rude, thoughtless and hurtful opinions are not appreciated, and I suggest that if you have nothing good to say, say NOTHING.

I am both and will remain here until the situation gets better.

Medical care is better and cheaper here and even with the curfew there is more freedom.  Not to mention the shutdown over there now has food supplies running short.

Tomorrows news will be :

Two Australians state they would prefer to remain in Thailand until Covid 19 is over as they feel safer.

On Thursday it will be a Kiwi

On Friday a Frenchman

Saturday ........Italian

Etc etc.

So these two came in 14 days ago with health certificates and 100,000 corona insurance and they want to stay in a quarantine center.

I think he means the teachers in Thai government schools. I unfortunately had to do my time in these before moving up, where I soon learned the Thai teachers pretty much have to murder somebody in order to get fired. Thus, many do the bare minimum of what might be considered teaching, occasionally visiting their classes to drop off worksheets or packets, then spending the rest of their time in the office doing who knows what. Then among the foreign teachers, there are certainly some who want to make the most of their experience and put in the effort, but as there's little to no accountability, for many it's just waiting for their next paycheck to party.

I worked in both Thai and international schools and saw teachers surfing the web during class time.

But that doesn't mean all teachers do.  Why so sensitive???

But how even if they had what you referenced did they come in, a WP, not Diplomats, Not a Pilot or medical necessitated personnel and definitely not Thai Nationals.  So at this point I am confused as to whether or not they arrived here before everything went into effect and maybe also have a dual citizenship with another country that somehow has been missed or did they come across a border crossing illegally.....something does not make any sense with this Thailand feel good story.

How can anybody have Corona?  The beer company that makes it has stopped production for the duration of this virus.
